Older 870 wingmasters?

Express barrels do work on a Wingmaster. The wingmaster is way better than the express. Remington does not advise the use of steel through a full choked 870 barrell, but many do just that without getting killed? I have seen a few cracked barrels after steel shot was used. I have seen many more without any apparent damage. I have seen many ring bulged barrels but not one 870. I have never seen one good steel shot pattern with an 870 barrel. Dangerous? Who knows, but if Remington does not advise it, as far as I am concerned it is user be warned. All that said, I would take an older wingmaster action over an express any day.

And this goes for everyone like you. If you are willing and prepared to take the risk of trying an unsafe practice, not stated by me but by every single shotshell and shotgun manufacturer, please feel free to do so. Do not try to convince new folks to the sport what you do is safe and it is safe for them to do so as well, it is not. It may never happen to you, but it may happen to them, then the sky wont be falling, but it will soley land on your lap. Are you prepared to accept the responsibility and liability when someone loses their sight or worse?

Right on:D

except for your opinion of the express;)

am i the only one who missed the first part.... cdn tire sells used guns? they stopped selling guns years ago.
Saw a 870 wingmaster at the local cnd tire. 2&3/4" chamber, fixed full choke, decent/ok shape. Nothing special but seemed like a good field gun. Price was $225. I own a 870express and have been happy with it, my bro likes my express and is looking for something of his own. Worth the $225, also is 3" or 3&1/2" chamber really needed for hunting? I've always used 2&3/4" shells in my express, even though it'll take 3"mag, but i've done very limited geese hunting, which is something we'd like to get into in the future.

Thx in advance

That is not quite true! There are still a few Canadian Tire Stores that still sell guns. A store in Calgary and Red Deer are owned by shooters. The store in Calgary has a fine selection of firearms including Caesar Guireini (sp) and Blaser to mention a few and they buy good quality used guns for resale.

When you shoot the steel shot through older Nickle steel barrels ,even mod it will or can ring the barrells! Newer barrels with Mod or ImpCly would handle it!

Depends on how old the shot-gun and do you want to ruin an old one?

Also anybody that handles one of my old Wingmasters says : This has been refinisted!: Not so the quality is just that good!

Why would you want to trade that kind of quality for 1/4 inch of shot-shell?

Im assuming youve never seen a 12 guage barrel that blew apart sending steel shards all over due to the use of steel shot in an older fixed full choke barrel. It happens, I think youre just lucky it hasnt happened to you....yet. But please post pics when it does.

Have you really seen it and have pictures? I've always wanted to hear from someone with first hand experience of this. I have experience of hunting with guys that use steel in their fixed full choke older wingmasters and auto 5's.
No barrel or pattern problems. Not saying problems don't happen just wonder what percentage.
