So after reading Ganderite's Vintage rifle shoot thread and seeing what Amaziah Rimfire did to his Bubba'd No.4, I figured that I might give that a try. My friends dad has a Bubba'd 1942 LB No.4 with the barrel hacked off right in front of the Bayo lugs that he offered to sell me, but I turned him down. But after seeing the potential, I might just take him up on the offer. My question is who makes a modern scope that looks similar to the No.4(T) scopes? I was looking at Nikon, Leopold and bushnell and they all have scopes that have a similar appearance. I checked out Weaver's website but it looks like all there scopes they make now have the more "modern appearance. Also, what could I use for rings? Since the rifle is already bubba'd, drilling would not really be a crime, would it? Thanks for the input.

Oh and might as well add this, I will also need a stock set as of course, the stock is hacked. I checked springfield sporters website and they have them, but I don't think they have the dark walnut that I am looking for, well not a complete set that is. Thanks.
 
When I see a No4 bubba'd with the barrel cut back to the front sight protector I see a L42 , L39 or even an Enforcer "lookalike" in the making.

I scoped that rifle about 15 years ago. I found the scope at a local gun shop and I think I paid about $50 or less for it. Used scopes tend to be inexpensive since everyone wants the latest technology. It's an obsolete steel tube Weaver K3 with a tapered post reticle, and it's almost old-timey enough to pass for a WWII sniper scope. In fact it's very similar to the Lyman Alaskans that the US actually used. The bases and rings are Parker Hale and are also out of production. The front base has to be drilled and tapped into the receiver ring, but the rear base simply replaces the rear sight and has a "battle sight" aperture on it so you can shoot without the scope in an emergency.

I can see where you'd want a modern scope because optics have come a long way in the last 20 years and you'd get the nice coated lenses and waterproofing, etc., but if I were you I'd spend some time looking at gun shops and gun shows and see what you can turn up first.

Ya thats a Leupold. I was considering one. The 2.5x fixed "ultralight" series they have look promising. Midway USA lists them for $299(?) but up here I imagine they would go for a little more.

Edit: P&D has them for $363.00, I think I may have a winner, anyone know of a cheaper one?

I didn't like to shoot my #4T very often, so built a Pseudo #4T as a "shooter". Had it at the Gun Nutz shoot, but never used it. Still sorting out my scoped Russian SKS.

His #4 was causing "oohs" and "aahs" in the butts, as we watched his groups form. Small and in the middle. I did not know a #4 would shoot so well.

I bought a old steel K3 with a tapered post as well, but when the rifle was made, decided to go modern. Bought a Cabellas scope 4-4 with an elevation drum calibrated in yards. So far, it seems to work well, but have not shot it much.

I picked up a Leupy 1-4X VX-II that's rather nice, I had it sent in to get serviced and put target turrets on, alas, it was high profile turrets that ended up on it.
 
Airborne 69, if you hate using a coin for scope adjustments, you should try an REL 32 MkI. You need at least 3 hands, 4 is better and some special tools.
 
So I just went and got the rifle, $80 so no big deal. I am going to take it apart tonight and give her a clean. But The barrel was actually cut in front of the Lugs, not after like i thought, but whatever.

Ganderite, how is your scope mounted?
