I was wondering if the Vektor R4 is prohibited or restricted?
I checked the CFC's website but could not find it under the list of prohibited firearms.
Vektor manufactured a civilian and law inforcment version called the LM4.
Its a 5.56 caliber semi automatic rifle that was produced in the early 1970's
Here is a pick of and R5 wich was has a shoter barrel.
Here is some more info about this rifle

Thanks for your help

Yup, bundled up with the Galil and other AK 'variants' (???) Decent enough service rifle though, I think probably slightly better than the Galil - I've handled one and the fit and finish was superior to the Galil. The gentleman standing beside it also said he shot it better than the Galil.

Having had numerous GALIL rifles and having handled the R4, I myself could not find any discernable difference in the firing, accuracy or handling of either when comparing apples to apples.

My 7.62 GALIL rifles were somewhat heavier than my shorter barreled 5.56 types. The ARM was different than the 332, both in 7.62. The design is the same as the R4; merely a copy and has little; if any..."enhancements". That being said, it is possible to get examples that are better than another due to manufacturing tolerances, the age of the manufacturing machines, etc...

Yeah; sadly prohibited as is almost all the fun stuff...

Thats just sucks.
The south African army started to issue the R4 just after my dad left the army (he had a R1). People started buying them just be for we left S.A. He realy wanted my to get one and honestly I would love to have one.
Damn lieberals

The liberals (or lie-berals, as the liberal party are lying bags of ****) are responcible for the banning (or prohibiting) or MANY MANY rifles that are great hunting/sporting type rifles, the FN FAL, HK 91, Steyr AUG for some....

Actually that would have been Kim Campbel and the PCs my good man.

They brought in 12.3, 12.4 and 12.5

The liberals not to be outdone came up with 12.6 and 12.7

Gun laws in SA would have prohibited most people from owning a select fire weapon or a semi, their was a pump action model available, sort of defeats the object.

Most SA had enough fun shooting assault rifles in the SADF and Commando.

R4 Info

The only noticeable difference between the two is stock length. The R4 is longer.

Also the butstock is synthetic and there was a modification made to the bolt to make the firing pin spring loaded using a cupped washer to prevent slam fires. Originally it was painted brown, but overheating (lots of F/A) caused the barrels to turn a sort of pink colour, so the paint was changed to black.

There was a civilian semi-auto variant for sale, but likely not anymore due to the new Canadian style gun laws down there. I don't know if any were imported here. I personally doubt it (sanctions etc), and any Gallils in Canada likely came from the US.

Still used bt the SANDF and also in the new CR-21 variant, which is basically just a bullpup stocked R4.

This was at a military show (Arms show), and the guy standing beside the rifle was employed selling them (in quantity) to "end user states and organizations" -I'm pretty sure he had the prettiest R4 on the planet ;)

Yep both the Libs and PC party have screwed Canadian gun owners. When you think of it they all have because The Libs, NDP and Bloc voted for C68.

Is there any MP's left in the Conservative party that was around when Kim Campbell screwed us ???

Shame there was a SA made semi auto version available years ago. These companies rose out of the Aparthied years when there were global trade bans on SA. Their R4 was a well made (if not better) than the IMI original. FYI they (Galil pattern) are still being made out of the Colombian national armories on contract through IWI. but may soon be replaced with Tavor variants.

They were legally available in SA to civilians prior to the semi-auto rifle ban in 1989 and current owners were grandfathered in, I knew a guy who moved to the US from SA in the early 80s with his LM4 and he sold it for some insane amount of money at the time, I think it was 1993-ish and he got US$7,000 for it.

It is supposed to be very slightly better than a Galil because it has a spring-loaded firing pin and the finish on his LM4 seemed better to me than a military Galil, but not so much as compared with the semi-auto commercial guns.
