870 and Tactical

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE REPLIES.

Right now I am narrowing down what I want (and waiting for my tax return to come in)

So I called Wolverine (I love dealing with them) and they said the 870 express with ghost rings will be about $600....
I think I will take it.

But now, again forgive ignorance, can I use the shotgun for slugs down range? Will the treading mess with slugs? (vis versa)... or can i even leave the choke on (since its not a real choke and i think its a 'open bore' choke)

bringing the thread back..... Just bought a express tactical, cant wait for it to arrive in the mail from Wolverine

and yeah 870P is about 400 more, so that puts it well out of my price range

Just to show you I'm not fooling around...

NEVER shoot any shotgun Without a choke installed. The threads will get damaged. The muzzle brake choke is marked cylinder - so a standard remchoke cylinder will do the same thing. I find slugs shoot best through an IC or even mod choke.

CAbelas.ca is a good place for this type of gun especially they haev like 3 or 4 different types of tactical remingtons let alone the mossbergs

Everytime someone uses the word 'tactical', I kill a kitten.

Well guys, the 870 express tactical with ghost rings is in back-order for a while(that means my local hunting store can't get them within a few months) because it's the model Remington sells the most, so I'll have the "normal" one within this week.
I'll probably buy ghost rings to put on it too.

i picked up a new express magnum for around 200 dollars cheaper than the express tactical, all its missing is the muzzle break/choke tube specific to the tactical. even has the speed feed stock. it works awsome for 200 bucks cheaper.

Well, tell us how much you paid for it and I'll tell you if it's worth it. I don't think the receiver would be drilled/tapped like the express tactical is. You'll need to buy the "tactical" choke, the tactical forearm stock, the +2 mag extention, and that special "grey-gun-powder-coat" on the "normal" 870 express tactical is supposed to be awesome. Can BGM confirm that?

Oh and that TACTICAL on the receiver is well worth it, seriously. :D

LOL I'd be just as happy with the Express Mag as I am with my Tactical. In the end its just a short 12 gauge.

I picked up a 870 Express Magnum reciever that I'm going to build up as well. I do like the Silvervein powdercoat on the Tactical better then the crappy parkerizing on the Express.

The Tactical choke tube is neat looking but I have an extended Turkey Extra Full in it now for hunting that patterns 3" lead BB very nicely.

Well, it does peel off in sheets which is different. Remington does not apply the finish at their factory. There have been issues with that finish. Returned it and got an 870P.
