New here!:D

So I've made up my mind, I'm gonna use to tax refund and get a Savage MkII.
Two things:

FV http://www.savagearms.com/markiifv.htm
Or BV http://www.savagearms.com/markiibv.htm

Like JohnnyBender, I've read from a few other people that they despise the synthetic stock on the FV. I like black, and I like synthetic, but am turned away by these peoples opinion about how the stock feels. Apparently can't get a good cheek weld.
The BV is nice, but another $80.

My local gun store has the FV for $350 and the BV for $425. Whereas Cabelas.ca has each for $60 less, plus $20 shipping.
Is it worth saving a few bucks buying online from cabelas, or should i be spending a bit more $$ and support my local gun store? Anyone have experience with Cabelas?

I have the FV and I can honestly say that I wish I had paid the extra for the BV. The cheek weld on the FV is indeed horrible, as you will need xtra high rings with any decently sized scope. The synth stock is pretty flimsy and I wouldn't trust it to hard use. All I use mine for is shooting from a bench at the rifle range, so it doesnt matter that much to me, but like I said before, a good cheek weld is practically impossible with my FV. I would buy the rifle locally, a lot of places like Cabelas and WSS will list the BV, but it may not be in stock. When I bought my FV at WSS, the BV was not in stock or I would be talking about it right now...Also buying locally you can inspect the wood, crown, etc for any defects.

$80 buys about four bricks of ammunition, which you will go through in a few months (or less.) The gun will last a lifetime. Buy the one that will make you happy in the long term and don't worry too much about a small price difference.

Right on, good advice!

Okay, so my local gun store has a SLIGHTLY used BV with a cheap Bushnell rimfire scope on it. They sell a NEW BV for $425, but are selling this one USED for $429 with the cheap scope.

Is it rude to offer them a lower dollar amount in cash (how much)? Or is that just cheap and trying to low ball them? I know firearms don't depreciate much in value, but sellling a used rifle for $5 more then a brand spanking new one just because of a cheap $40 scope? I'm still fairly new to firearms, so maybe i just don't know she goes....

Go for the wood, I got one from Cabelas, with a 2.5-10X 42 scope and two spare mags of 10 shots. Dont regret it at all, oh yes I should have bought it sooner. :D

Right on!

I just went out a few hours ago and picked up the used BV
$420 for it with bushnell rimfire scope and rings. Hopefully didn't overpay?

The Bushnell 3x9 rimfire scope is actually a pretty good piece. I used to have one on my BV and found it perfectly satisfactory for 50 yd shooting. It's fairly bright, has good eye relief and holds zero. If that is what's on the used rifle you might want to think about it.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the tip-off rings (the kind meant to fit into grooves on the receiver.) I replaced the rings with a set of B-Squares designed to fit the BV's weaver style mounts. I eventually remounted the rimfire scope on another rifle and put a Bushnell Banner on the BV. But frankly, the 3x9 was just as good for 50 yd shooting.

I'd say you did alright. My store has them on a "Spring Hunting SPECIAL" for $249

Can't wait to shoot'er tommorow!

I actually wanted to buy one from one of the retailers here but the bloody guy ignored my messages the moment I said that I'd take it even though he was online every single day. I finally said screw it and drove the hour into town and spent the extra $60 just to get one right then and there.

I could have saved $20 (on the gun) if I had went with the .17HM2 instead of the .22LR but the damn ammo for the .17HM2 was 5x the cost of the .22LR.

Where did you get yours drache? You have to look for suppliers with last year's pricing. I bought a Marlin 925 (chose over the IIG) for $273 with shipping/gst included

Like I said I bought it "locally" at Chilcotin Guns. I had found a retailer here on CGN that had last years pricing but I asked him some questions about the gun, he answered them, I said I would take the gun and asked for payment options, and then the retailer decided to ignore me from that moment on even though he's been on CGN every day since then (except for one day actually). I finally had enough of being ignored so I bought it locally even though it cost more.
