I've been lurking here for a couple of months and I'm looking forward to getting my PAL in September when I turn 18. I'm planning to do it with a couple of friends who are also into shooting sports.
Growing up I always had lots of cap guns and whatnot, and I first fired a rifle at my camp when I was about 13. They had Remington Model 5s but with the mags removed so they were effectively single shot .22s. I was one of the best shots of my group and narrowly missed going to the camp wide competition.
I've been mainly doing a lot of research here and I've learned a lot, but I've only scratched the surface. Fortunately I have a cottage near Orillia where there seems to be a gun club, so hopefully I'll be able to join that and get into some plinking.
I'm planning on getting either a Savage Mark II or a Remington Model 5 for my first gun, or at any rate something with iron sights in .22lr so I can learn the basics first with something that fires cheap ammo.
