Anyone use this and notice that the disk setting (0.40) which is supposed to dispense 4.3 grs only dispenses 4.1 - 4.15 grs. I used it with one setting higher (0.43) which is supposed to dispense 4.6 grs and it only dispenses 4.4-4.45.

I am looking to charge 4.3 grs everytime and have considered very slightly demeling the disk to allow for a little more powder.

What do you guys think?

My auto discs consistently throw low (.1 or .2). You could dremel it, but what happens when the next batch of powder is slightly more dense?? You will be over what you were looking for. I would get the adjustable charge bar or learn to like being off by .2 of a grain.

My .02 :)

Been a typical problem since its inception. As mentioned above, it also varies based on powder density from batch to batch. It is only meant as a guideline to be close. Always use your scale to verify and adjust accordingly. I havnt seen one cavity yet that throws what it is advertised to do. Usually out by up to -.5gr . I have had problems with the Lee adjustable powder bar in past as well. Very picky about the type of powder it accepts but works well if u can get it to feed reliably.

I have heard similar complaints about the adjustable, I am not too concerned about the dremel throwing it out, since I bought the double disk kit, I have an extra identical charge disk.

Having said the, the charges thrown using the 0.43 setting aren't significantly higher than my desired charged, I'll work up a few rounds and check for pressure problems, it might be best doing it this way to ensure a comfortable margin on the base floor power for shoots.

Different types of powder do meter differntly. The tables for the discs are only a guidline to get you close. I used a drill bit in a press just slightly larger than the hole to open it up enough to get me the extra I wanted. You dont have to remove much material to make a difference. A dremel might be a bit to use, try a drill bit first.

Let's say back in June '08, the .76 hole threw 5.5gr of Red Dot. If I try that same load in January '09, there's a good chance the .76 hole won't throw the exact same weight. Like some people said, not only does powder density vary from batch to batch, it's also affected by climate. Don't be too quick to blame the disks.

In the back of the Lee manual is a fairly accurate table showing the charge weight for each brand. I think the lawyers had a hand in picking the data in the loading tables. I start at the recommanded disk and then work up. However if you use the disk size give, the round still works fine and at today's prices I load for economy.

Yup, mine's always been out when it comes to the measure. For an accurate load, you have to use the scale

(gah, reminds me of a paraphrase to the Star Wars line - "use the scale, luke...trust your scale")

Whose gonna use a scale for pistol loads? I weight every 10th or 20th charge, thats usually good enough to demonstrate a consistent throw

I also have extra discs. I enlarged one hole so that it would metre a specific, slightly larger charge. Forget the Dremel. You do not need anything that aggressive. I used a taper reamer. You could likely scrape the hole slightly larger with a little knife. Mark the altered hole!
