I got a 22-250 and Im loading with Varget. I just bought some 80 grain Hornady A-max and I can't find any load data. I would like a starting load and a max load. The only place I found any info was on loaddata.com but I really want to avoid paying 30 dollars for a subscription for this one load. Could you guys please help me out

Thanks

Modern Reloading 2nd Ed. only has xmr4350, XMR4064 and A2700 listed for 80 grain bullets.
Data for 70 grain jsp says 29.5 start to 32 max with varget, so back off 2 or 3 grains and work up. I would start with 27 grains.
edit - I see mount sweetness beat me to it.

I got a 1-9 twist. Im hoping I can get them to stabilize. But if not then it was a test and Ill know for the future.

And ya I have looked on the hodginson website but they only go up to 60 gr for the 22-250

"...they only go up to 60 gr..." 70, but you may find the 80's are too long. May be too heavy for Varget in a .22-250. Contact Hodgdon and ask if they have a Varget load. help@hodgdon.com(they don't always answer E-mails) Call 'em. 7:00am to 5:30pm Central Monday-Thursday : 913-362-9455
Accurate shows a load using 80 grain Sierra HPBT's with Accurate 4064. Uses a 1 in 14 twist though.
There's one load on Reloadersnest using Aliant Reloader 19. Nothing on Alliant's site.

Just wondering what sorta rifle you've got. I've always wanted to find a 1:8 or 1:9 22-250, but aside from building one, i've yet to see a factory job. I would think though that 1:9 might still be a little slow for 80's.

Try some H4350, RL17, IMR4831. 33, 32, 34 grains starting respectively. Sierra lists IMR4831 as their accuracy load with a 80 grain HPBT Matchking. W760 is also listed by nosler with their 80gr. as working well. Approx 34gr. starting.

I have a Savage 12fv, with a custom tube. And so far its shooting like crap. I still have to tinker with the seating depth and it could be the powder like you guys have said. Im thinking 1 in 9 is too slow. Ill let you know more when I do some more testing.

Thanks for the replies.
