In the past hour I've probably had over 10 people (and about another 10 in the past couple years) tell me that it's "illegal" to hunt with a bipod in Canada. I tried telling them that it's allowed (why ban something which helps with getting a more steady shot and thus maybe a cleaner kill) and they are all standing by their beliefs. Now I've been wrong MANY times before (and will admit it to them if I am) so I did some searching and nothing comes up on the CFC website nor the BC hunting regulations concerning bipods. Hell, they even sell those "tripod" type things or what they call "shooting sticks" right beside the bipods

Stupid question I know but I'd like to be able to try and prove it either to me or to them.
 
There are no regulations on using Bi-pods that would be the dumbest thing ever! hey lets make hunters take unnecessary risk when hunting big game :rolleyes: if I can shoot from I Bi-pod I will!....if not then a tree, fence post.....ect works too.

lets see these guys take a shot at anything more then 200yds with out a rest and see how they make out :nest: I do it target shooting but not at a big game animal why take a free hand shot when you can use a Bi-pod/shooting sticks?.....seems stupid that they are even arguing over it :confused: .
 
Are the FUDDs at work here Drache? No bipods because it makes guns look too tactical? :rolleyes:

Can't speak to BC, but in Ontario you would be 100% correct, I hunt with shooting sticks and bipods all the time.

Ethically bipods should result in a cleaner kill, transforming a 4 or 5 MOA free hand shot into a 1 or 2 MOA bench rest, well, kinda bench rest.

Out of the 20 people, probably 17 were "adults" with a minimum age of 40 and the other 3 were in their 20's and all were avid hunters.

I figured it was a stupid thought but when you have 20 people saying the same thing (none of these people know each other) then it got me wondering.

LOL, they have done numerous group psychological studies all using the power of group suggestion to get people to change their minds.

The one that comes to mind is where a group of people (the control participants) all indicate which line amongst the two lines is longer (to which every response is the wrong one) and then the watch the test subject to see if they agree.

Don't let them get to you, be confident in your knowledge.
 
Well I guess technically it might be illegal to hunt with just a Bi-pod. What ya gonna do? beat the deer over the head with it? :D :D


However, I have never heard anybody even mention that it might be illegal or even unethical in any way to hunt with a bi-pod attached to your firearm.
 
I like the one I heard the other day " It should be illegal to hunt with scopes, wheres the sport in that?" I told this ill informed douche that he needs to stop watching fictional war movies.:kickInTheNuts:
 
The Act that govern hutning in BC isthe WIldlife Act. Ask them to point that out ot you in either the Wildlife Act of BC or the Hunting Regs Synopsis. They won't be able to point it out to you because that law DOESN'T EXIST.

Bipods are as illegal to use as canada geese are to hunt......
I bet I have had a dozen people tell me since christmas how its illegal to shoot geese (except the one guy who thought that natives had special permits to do it). DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! :runaway:
 
Yeah there is a similar belief around my area concerning the use of centrefire rifles being used in my WMU. This WMU has no centrefire rifle season for BIG GAME, and up until 15 years ago (approx) it was strictly archery only, however there is now a controlled shotgun-muzzleloader season in that area. Anyways, I would invite buddies to accompany me on coyote hunts and they would show up with 22lr or wmrs and look aghast at me for carrying my 22-250 or 243. They would say that is "illegal"!! Well after some arguements and some friendly (or not!) name calling, I took it upon myself to discover the truth behind this myth and dispell the rumor mill once and for all. I spoke with the MNR and they claimed they had no laws against the activities I was inquiring about, so I then called the OPP, nope nothing wrong there but they did suggest that I call the local municipalities to find out if there were any "no shoot" zones around the towns. So I called the local municipal office and they confirmed there were some areas where shooting any type of firearm was illegal, but these areas were quite small around the towns and outside that area there was no restriction on centrefire rifles. SO there you go! Popular belief is not always correct, and with a little digging you can find out the truth!
 
Good LOOORD...how do people come-up with this non-sense. :confused:

If someone would have told me about bi-pod's being illegal for hunting, I would have laughed right in their face. :D

LOL I got the if you have a scope you can't miss comment from a guy at work :)

I told him to stuff it and if he has no hands on knowledge about shooting he should STFU.
