Last year I picked up a 700 SPS DM Youth in .308 for my wife to use. I recently put it in a full length SPS stock, gave it a little Krylon and put on a new VXII 3-9x40mm LR, in Talley's.

Weight is 7lbs 5oz as is. Down the road I'll put it in an EDGE...

I had a load last year with 150gr SST that would touch all 3 shots, so we'll see if it is consistent, maybe tomorrow if the rain holds out...

Hey, that don't look too bad in brown. I wonder if the paint will stay on?

I have a SPS that I picked up while teaching my kid to shoot centerfires. I never really liked it, and don't really care for .243 caliber. My boy shot the hell out of it. The other day I got to thinking about spare parts and stuck it together with a old Vari X 111, some Burris rings from the junk drawer and a take-off CDL stock from a friends project. I never bothered bedding it, and since the original barrel contour in the stock was the stainless fluted it was already free floated with the SPS barrel. Knowing that I didn't care for it much, the little parts gun shoots cloverleafs just to p*** me off. :D

Hey that looks real good .I have a sps just wondering what you did to prep the stock for paint.im thinking mine may get a new color as well.

Took the pad and studs off, shaved the mold lines down with a razor and sanded smooth. Sprayed brown, let it dry, then a coat of Satin Clear...

Use the Krylon Fusion paint, its formulated for adhesion to plastic. You can get it at CT, Walmart, Rona. Home Depot has Rustoleum for plastic, which would probably work just as well.

Looks good, Ive been wondering what to do with my sps. What are the options for detachable mag stocks (LA magnum action) ? . I had actually ordered the hingeplate but decided to hold on to it. Looks like there are more options if you have the hingeplate.

If you're talking aftermarket, almost anyone will inlet their stocks for a DM. As for the SPS stock, it only took me about 8 minutes with the dremel to inlet it.:)

Good looking rifles boys.....thanks for posting. Remington always, always make stunningly beautiful rifles. Even the 788 and 600 I find 'pleasing' to look at.

Just saw a brand new for '09 M700 Varmint SF in .220 Swift. It's got a VTR stock....not in green....but black and dark grey. It's got the same SA stainless 26" gig as the VS SF II. Now, I am am fan of old school walnut and blue, but I have gotta say...it was....beautiful. The action was perfectly polished, even the inside lug rail was gleaming. The action itself was really crisp and butter smooth, and the whole rifle excuded quality.

Now, I like my Savages, but I'm telling you, the credit card was out in my sweaty hand........:)

I like the brown too, but I cannot lay claim to the patent. I stole the blueprint from SuperCub's .270...:D
That rifle went to the range this morning. I shot a string of seven 140gr Nosler BTs moving up in 1/2gr increments today. The first four of them were touching or almost.

.

nice work Blargon!

but your rifle isn't even old :D

this is old : 1965 Rem 700 ADL, replaced the blind mag wood stock & Weaver bases & Rings & Redfield 3-9x33 with a HS Precision sporter stock, BDL bottom metal, Talley lightweights and a VX3 3.5-10x40 B&C scope :dancingbanana: now this is a NEW old rifle

Yeah, you got my rifles's grand-daddy...:D

(I'm jealous on the scope , only the lowly VXII for me...)

I think those SPSs are a very good deal for a shooter who like to tinker and upgrade. The basic guns are usually good shooters with lots of options down the road.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I'm getting good groups with mine.
