I noticed some brass filings and general cruddiness inside the mag. So far I've been blasting a bunch of cleaner down it and blowing with compressed air, but there must be a better way. Can they be disassembled? If so, how?

There is a post up somewhere, I asked the same question.

I use a #2 Robertson screw driver and place it in the hole in the floor plate of the mag.

Gently lever the floor plate out enough to get a grip on it with my fingers and slide it out.

Then you have to wiggle the spring out, best accomplished by putting presure on one side of the square bottom of the spring and then levering out the opposite side.

Wiggle the spring out till you get the follower down to the bottom of the mag body.

You'll have to fiddle to get the follower out.

Wipe internals with a nice cloth after blasting with brake cleaner or some other high speed low drag nasty stuff that disolves crap fast and leaves as little residue as possible. Followed by a very very tiny bit of oil if you so choose, but this usually makes for more frequent cleaning of gunk but less chances of rust.

Reassemble in reverse order.

Forgot to say that a medium tooth brush makes an excellent cleaning tool to get the s**t out of the folds in the mag.
