It seems the 338-06 is the new hot hunting caliber... :D

I just completed two rifles in 338-06. Both on trued 700 actions. One stainless and one blued action. One with a #1 contour and one with a #2 contour 24 inch Gaillard barrel. The heavier rifle (9 pounds) not pictured here has a grey 4.5 x 14 Leupold in lapped dual dovetail mounts. The lighter rifle shown (8.25 pounds) has a 3.5 x 10 B & C mounted the same. Both in factory 700 grey laminated stocks. This was refinished in a dull oil type finish.

Sweet rigs

Sweet lookig rig. Almost looks like my Sako m75 Greywolf 338-06AI that I had made last fall. LOVE IT!! Shoots 225gr Accubonds quite nicely. Will also be trying 225gr TTSX's.

Mine weighs in at 9.62 lbs with Leoupld VX3 scope, Optilock Ring mounts.

I went with a #5 PacNor Supermatch grade stainless barrel and my gunsmith fluted it. Weighs like a #4. Overall pkg weighs almost idential to a Sako m75 Greywolf 300WM, 7mmRM, 338WM.

That is one round I would love to have but I don't reload :(

Maybe some day the ammo companies will get it together and make some for it....

What is that build worth with a Gaillard barrel ? I am interested pm me if you dont want to post it .

My customers supply their parts, I do the labour.
I charge $150 to true a Remington 700 series action,
$225 to fit a round blank in most calibers, Gaillard charges $375 for most preturned blanks shipped. Barrel finish and bedding, lapping rings, etc, varies...

Here is a picture of the 8.25 pound 338 06.

Looks really good Gord!!

I have been wanting to build a nice Stainless M70 or M700 338-06 as a grizz/moose gun for a while now.....just have to get on it and do it!!!

338-06

Dennis and Gord where so impressed with the Rem 700 left hand with a s/s gaillard barrel and grey lam stock that Dennis built for me , it shoots 1/2 groups all day and has taken 3 moose so far , if you want one built he is your man .. every one will see the light one day :):):):):)
Lefty 338-06

Dennis, on that ss action, what did you do to the barrel? It looks to have a scaled finish...I like it. Got any closeups?

I don't have a close up of a barrel done that way but this is a picture of a blued action I did the same way as the stainless barrel.

It is a pattern I sand blast on a polished surface and then wire brush with a soft stainless wheel. Anyone who has bought a barrel from Gaillard will recognize how the pattern is made. :D
