SKS 420 yards with iron sights and surplus ammo

HOW THE HELL IS THIS POSIBLE!!!
This is nutz!!!
I would hate to piss this guy off!!!
Nice find

It is very possible, right now at the range we join last month myself, my wife, and our 13 year old daughter are hitting the steel gong 300 meters out with our SKSs.

BTW my wifes first rifle was the SKS I gave her and she took her first shots at a steel ram on another range that was 200 meters out.

Amazing what can be done if no one tells you you can't do something combined with learning how to shoot a rifle properly.

One thing I'll say about the vid is methinks his accuracy would be even better if he wasn't messing with the barrel harmonics by resting his rifle on the folded bayonet.

Good vid BTW, nice find. :)

very good shooting . 50 rds mag is ugly , could double for a monopod . :D

the rifle is a early chinese SKS with a short lug barrel made in mid to late 60s.

I am shocked. Thats some great shooting for an SKS. I have only had mine out to 100 yards. I was shooting 4" - 5" groups from a bench rest with irons. I need to practice more.

Is this range in BC?

I've used a stock SKS with iron sights to shoot the rams at 500m. I get about 50% knock downs but often hits don't have enough jam to knock them over at this distance so I assume I'm getting better than 50% hits.

Impressive, but you'll knotice he's turning out new vids weekly... he's there all the fricking time practicing. If any of us practiced that much, I think we'd be much better shots.

Eos - exactly.

Nice video!

I have to agree that this is not as ridiculous as many may think it to be. I can consistently hit the gong at 200m with my Norc SKS or CZ858 at 200 at my club (either from the bench or sitting on the ground), and could easily imagine getting half decent at hitting a 300m gong if the opportunity to practice on one presented itself. Of course wind would begin to have a serious effect at those ranges if it was gusty.

400m doesn't sound easy, but if the sights were set to the proper range and there was a chance to see where the misses went, at least some hits would be doable. I seemed to have lucked out with my Norc SKS (it can shoot within 3" at 100m, maybe better if I tried it off a proper rest), so that helps. And of course, there's a big difference between getting a majority of shots on target at a set range shooting from a table versus the effective hunting range of a rifle. Though I wouldn't discount the possibility of hunting deer up to 200m with mine after a good deal of practice (which this rifle can provide with surplus ammo), it's practically a 100m bush rifle at my current level of proficiency.

Accurate bolt guns and ARs are great, but you don't necessarily need that degree of accuracy in a rifle to practice at the ranges used in the video. If fewer people treated the SKS simply as a fun gun but rather used it to inexpensively get practiced in various shooting positions and ranges, they'd probably get a lot more out of shooting it.

With Regards,

Frank
