Smokless in uberti sharps

Am considering on picking up a uberti sharps in 45/70. Are these rifles designed for BP. or smokless charges? They have a 6 twist rh. tube. I am interested in picking one up but do not want to mess with BP.
 
Lots of data out there if you keep the loads below 29000 PSI you should be fine.
Don't use loads designed for the Marlins or Rugers. Cheers Randy
 
Is the twist rate of a BP. gun in 45/70 be the same as a 45/70 smokeless gun? What I am trying to get at does a black powder gun require a different twist rate than a smokless and why would there be a difference?

I have a highwall Uberti 45-70 it is twisted at 20. Those Uberti Sharps use the Pedrosoli
frame but I'm not sure whose barrel, if its a Uberti then likely it will be 1-20 twist if it's a Pedrosoli then most likely it will be 1-18. There is no practical differance between a repro and a gun designed for smokeless as far as twist goes. The 18 twist will handle heavier bullets over longer distances so the theory goes? The original millitary load was for 405grs of lead Later increased to 500grs These were shot mostly in 20 or 22 twist rifles.
 
Heavier bullets require a higher rate of twist to stablize nothing to do with the powder as far as I'm aware depends on the weight and length of projectile usually most repro 45-70's are 1-18 twist and yes they are ok with smokeless as long as you stay with the lower pressure loads they are not Ruger #1's.

I think most of what You wrote is true other than the fact that MOST45-70 repros are 20 twist. except Pedrosoli. Browning 1885s 1886's are 20 tpi.
C sharps and Shilo can be ordered how you want.
