Has this been thought up before? Basically a 30 round "shell" over a ten round only magazine. You could have lances punched in the body at the same spot the LAR mags have their baseplate positioned. Then the tabs at the bottom of the mag are removed so you could not put a baseplate in place (this would be an extended shell basically). A modified baseplate would be required and fit up into the mag body. The plate would have to be tilted initially to fit by the lances, then placed level. Follower and spring would have gone in first.

I know Questar put forward a 10/30 pistol mag that was shot down by the CFC, I suspect that this would be treated the same. Make sense? No. As long as it was manufactured for an AR15 pistol the law says it's legal.

I've said it before... I'll say it again... RCMP/CFC rejected the prototype that was submitted based on a full length (30 round style) mag body saying that they did not consider any full length variation to be a "Pistol" magazine but rather a converted Rifle magazine.

As I have previously said, I believe that decision was flawed but I do not have the desire or will to spend the time and money necessary to have that decision overturned... especially knowing that a successful lawsuit would only (likely) be followed by a change in legislation anyway.

But if someone else wants to invest the money and time to try to make it happen I wish them the best of luck. :)

Fits mag pouches better.
It also keeps the handling characteristics the same as the 30 rounders.
For training etc that tends to help.

Cool idea. I remember seeing that before but IIRC it was fairly espensive.

The magazine regulations specify the methods of limiting the capacity. If you have a plan that isn't one of those particular types, you'll have trouble getting it accepted.

As for the magazine idea, NO can't do it because of what Questar Mark said. As for cutting up a mag just to make one seem longer, what a waste. Check out Dlask. They make a coupler for the LAR-15 mags that when you use it, it makes the 2 mags look like one 30 rounder.

That's exactly why I do it. They fit in my vest, they are easy to handle compared to the short neutered mags (more of a grip) and they look waaaay better.

The way I did it they 10 rounder sill seperates for cleaning just like the original.

Read above to see why you do it. Looks are secondary. As well what you think a beat up mag with bent/busted feed lips is worth? If it dosen't work reliably it's garbage. I take those mags and cut and adapt them to my 10 rounders.

And if you only shoot off a bench that's great. If you use the rifle like you're meant to (mud, prone, dropping mags, etc) having those feed lips in the muck isn't going to seem like a good idea for long.

Amen !

duuhh !!!!!

What I've done for the SKS "D" look with out the SKS D issues is to take a 30 rd AK mag, cut the top off including the feed lips, and slide the bubba'd mag body over the fixed 5/10 rd mag...with the AR this isn't going to work as well because you wouldn't be able to fit the mag in the well...you could maybe slide a 10rd LAR15 mag into a butchered 30rd mag body to the point where the top of the 30 rd mag would hit the mag well. This would also be difficult because you would have to expand the mag body to accept the 10 rd mag and it would look fugly.
