Wow, sounds like you did a great job on the rebarreling. Did you have any snags during the process ?

bolt modification was the most difficult part but it was just a case of stripping it and then popping it in the lathe and opening it up with carbide cutter.

So what kind of small game (deer) cartridge would this make?? I am interested in this conversion as well because I like the non restricted 180 but cannot hunt with a caliber smaller than .243.

something like a mild 6.5x55 in a swedish mauser based on a 120 grain bullet
i dont see an issue with its power.
if you use a long enough barrel its supersonic up to 1200 yards at least bill alexander says

Someone should let Armalite in on this, then in a year or so (when the backorders clear on the M15) they can "commercialize" this one - along with the flat top receiver they showed a few years ago.

This is just a guess but I wouldn't expect to see armalite producing AR180b rifles for a while. If the US army doesn't pic up a new new rifle they'll be ordering a few hundred thousand M16s soon plus the AR180 isn't profitable enough for them to care any more I think.
