So I'm in a bit of a panic...I purchased a LB No4 Mk1* from the EE, transaction went beautifully. Unfortunately I just noticed 2 days later from the pictures sent me, that there appears to be something different about this LE.

The barrel only protrudes approximately 1/4" past the front sight as compared to the usual 1" or so. I've sent a PM to the gent that I purchased from asking him about it, however considering the price I paid, I'm a bit too anxious to wait for a reply and thought I'd ask you folks about it.

I can't post pictures at this time, since they belong to him and I don't yet have his permission to do so.

Is this a rare version of the No4, or has a modification been made ?

Cheers

Many No4 barrels were shortened when the rifles got sporterized - the tip of the barrel forward of the front sight was essentially for mounting the bayonet.

That may be what happened to yours.

I'm hoping that's not the case, as I was under the impression the rifle was not refurbed.

It is possible that the seller didn't know that rifle had once been sported out. If you can find a barrel, they are replaceable.

You can't find a barrel, and if you can replacing them costs money. Plus which, it'd now be a bitster, the barrel wouldn't be original to the rifle.

No4 Barrels are snapped up fast if & when the come up forsale. Do you have any picts?

I have pics, but I won't post them without the permission of the seller.

He answered my WTB ad, he didn't post it up on the EE. I -should- have seen this before hand, so it's my own fault...I may ask for a refund minus a couple bucks for the trouble, but I'll wait till he answers my PM's.

As for swapping out the barrel, not for the price I paid for it.

Worst case scenario, a sleeve can be fitted to the muzzle to restore length. Done carefully it a very unobtrusive repair. But it is still a repair.

If I have to, it will end up being a project rifle :)

My main grievance is just how much my little goof up cost me, we'll see how the chap I bought it from responds.

On the up side sporters can be found for cheap and as you have all the stocks it would be an easy swap to make a complete rifle and a bush gun.

I'd ask to return it...you have to pay shipping.

If you're stuck with it it might be a good candidate for one of Beater's Tankers.

Good part here is that it hasn't been shipped/transferred yet. All the same, he's allowed to refuse a refund since I already agreed to buy.

We're sure it's been cut, and isn't a rare LB factory made barrel ?

Ya thats been hacked. I got a sporter with the barrel cut in the same spot, paid $80. But you have to look at the bright side. Some collectors out there will not even look at a Bubba'd Enfield. But since they have already been messed with, it opens the door for some sweet project rifles. I bought mine to turn it into a Poor mans sniper variant. Barrels been chopped so drilling for a scope is not a crime anymore. I njust need to find a stock for it.

Huge thanks to JesseJames who refunded me and was quite apologetic. He was fantastic to deal with...it's too bad about the cut barrel it was a beautiful piece.

Well you apparently have a "good rifle" instead of one of them "EVUL A-Salt rifles" since it will no longer accept a bayonet!

At least that's how some brain dead liberals would think.

I have never figured out the reasoning for this circumcision.
