So who has a Browning High power in .40?

How has that worked for you? How many rounds through the gun?
Would you buy another?

Just asking because I have seen many good designs that were used as a basis for something larger and design limitations came to the fore with more power.

I've got one. Great gun: reliable, excellent ergonomics, and very soft shooting for a .40. Fit and finish is also very good - you can tell right away that it's a solidly built gun.

It does have two downsides, however. First of all, as with the 9 mm model, the trigger is not so hot out of the box, partly due to Browning's archaic magazine disconnect design. The good news is that the magazine safety can be easily removed, and a competent gunsmith should have no problem putting a slick trigger job on the BHP (it still won't be quite as nice as the 1911 trigger, however). The second problem is that the recoil spring and the mainspring are VERY heavy (part of the reason why the gun shoots so softly), which means that racking the slide may be a challenge for some people, particularly women and girly men. The heaviness of the recoil spring also make field-stripping a bit of a pain in the ass, but there's a simple trick that makes the process much easier (if anyone wants to know the specifics, feel free to PM me).

All in all, it is an excellent pistol and if I didn't have mine already, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
