hi there,

... just recently got my PAL and am still on a steep learning curve, but am curious about customization options for the XCR. Within Canada, are there any options whatsoever with respect to:

a) shortening the barrel length
b) replacing the stock with a collapsible or foldable stock

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you're gonna shorten the barrel why even bother getting an XCR in the first place? Just get an AR15 and spend the extra ~700 bucks on accessories. You'll wind up with a restricted rifle in either case.

There is rumours Wolverine is going to releasing a Folding Stock Adapter made in canada very soon

When 'Wolverine Supplies' states they Will be releasing an Adaptor in the coming weeks (months), I would not call that a rumour.

You can't cut it to 18 1/2 , if you are off by 1mm you are screwed.
It would be 19" like a Swiss Arms.
19" vs. 20" I don't think you would notice the 1 " difference. Not worth the time/money to do it.

In the end, it would be cheaper to get a Swiss Arms anyway.

Sorry Rivet that is what I meant John had said it is subject to feasibility so might not happen.

The Canadian model is the 18.6" barrel and fixed stock, so if you want it to retain the non-restricted status, there is nothing you can do about it, you can always get a competent gun smith to flute the barrel for you, besides the Wolverine up coming stock adaptor, there is another member on CGN that machined a adaptor as well, can recalled the name ATM.

Other non status changing things are the standard AR grip, you can bolt on anything your like and finally XCR comes with full length rails you can add more dead weight on if you feel like it.

ultimately get the gun in hand put a thousand rounds down the pipe before you start bolting on stuff.

you could have the barrel fluted, like hbean said. Mine's a 16", since I'm in the US, but I had it fluted and it lightened it considerably.

Lately the state department has required we pin and weld the muzzle brakes on... but they aren't impossible to get off if you know a good machinist.

I like my XCR. The only thing bothering me is the heavy barrel. If it had a lightweight barrel, it would balance better. With a 5 round limit on mags, the heavy barrel is not necessary to avoid overheating! It is good for benchrest shooting but not so much offhand. But it is accurate! I guess I could have the barrel turned to a more slender profile...

I hope they don't build a folder like the Rob Arm one. Back when I was with Kyle Precision (when it still existed) we looked at building a copy of the Robarm folding mechanism. We had one to play with and all I can say is what a pile of s**t. It had random screws that did nothing.

If some one were to build a folding mech, avoid it at all cost if it is a copy of the current Robarm one. Some one should build a FAL folding mechanism copy. Or SIG copy.

I got an XCR about a month ago and I am very happy with it. I'd recommend it to anyone. I actually prefer it to my AR-15. As time goes by there will be more and more adaptions that are available to you.

I beg to differ. I build about 2-300 of those stocks per month, and every single part on them has a purpose. If you read the user's manual it would make more sense to you.

There may be truth behind your assertions...

But in my opinion, claims of the sort you made that RobArms product is plagued by "...random screws that (do) nothing." fall into one off two categories. They are claims either:
  • lacking in fact and therefore completely specious; or,
  • proven in fact and therefore within the public interest to draw attention to.

If it is indeed in the public interest to know, I think it would be simultaneously more intellectually honest and engaging to support and justify those claims. Perhaps with photos or narrative? In essence, you'd be doing us a favor if your claims were accurate. Also, meaningful rebuttal could be made. Not because it is lawfully required to dodge around needless tort, but because it suits the interests of common sense and respect.

As it sits you haven't substantiated your claim in any way other than to essentially state that you think it sucks.

I'm not even sure how to begin to accept or rebut that other than what I've already said.

First off, I am die hard DI, but I got to play with one last weekend, and have to admit, I see a lot of potential. If it came with a 4150 1/7 twist barrel in the 14.5'' range and a collapsing, not folding stock, I would buy one today. But until then....
