hello gents

I`m planning on building a rig in .260Rem and looking for an advice on barrel maker: which one and why?

I know that there are several of them to chose form, but which one - this is a question.

Options: Smith, Lilja, Krieger, Gaillard and others.

any input is welcome :)
thanks
regards
K

All are good...we use Krieger as they are great quality and can supply them in large quantities that we require.

Get a Gaillard. Ted's a barrel making god! Here's 5 shots from the .260 barrel he made me.

Barrel for what type of shooting?

It really depends on what you are wanting to build this for, Target or Hunting. It makes a great deal of difference.
Can you clairify what you have in mind.
Bill.

Well, here is one way to decide

I started importing Krieger because I have never used a more consistently excellent barrel. I have never had a bad one, and the results from these - when mounted by a competent gunsmith - are unsurpassed.

Life and money are too short to waste either on guns that won't shoot. I started using them to improve my odds against getting a mediocre barrel. Most other makers produce some barrels that can shoot just as well, but few do it as consistently as Krieger.

I`m planning on a Target rifle with a HB, but with opportunity of some field action :)

to Obtunded: as I see on you site, for .260 you have only couture #0 and #4...is it possible to make a different couture for the barrel in this caliber?

My 6.5 Krieger barrel is a 17A Contour. He can order any contour you wish.

BTW, I had it out tonite with 42.5gr H4350, BR2 primers and 140gr Berger's jammed .015 moving at around 2870fps.....my vertical dispersion was waterline. My wind calls sucked some serious a$$ though :D we had about a minute and a half of right to left wind.....until it dropped off on me!! :(

41.7 H4350 and Sierra 142's were shooting the lights out as well but the velocity was not there.

That chart is a confusing way of saying that the MINIMUM contours available are a #4 in stainless and no minimum in Chromoly.

Krieger has no control over whether a 6.5 barrel will be used in a whisper cartridge or a 264 win mag, and as such they are liability conscious. Lots of people will chime in about having thin profiles on magnums, but these guys use a #4 as the thinnest they will make a 6.5 barrel.

Conversely, you can order them as thick as you want! any contour number greater than 4.....Like CyaN1de, I have a 6.5-08 "Habu" in a 17A contour that is awaiting a Carl Bernosky stock.

CyaN1de also shot an amazing perfect score on a mere 35mm target at 300M this past weekend during the BC Sierra ISSF match, using his 6BR and one of our barrels.

CyaN1de, what are you feeding the BR.
I load 105 gr. lapua's with 29.5 gr of Re 15 behind em. They shoot very well.

I shot the Sierra match with the 6 PPC though, not quite as good as you but i hit 57/60.
