To anyone who says a Savage 10FCP can't shoot "out of the box"...

... I think these pictures are worth a thousand words.

Savage 10FCP, HS Precision Stock, .308 Winchester (redundant since all Model 10's are .308's but I'll put it here again).

Leupold Mark 4 ER/T, 4.5-14x50 AO Mil-Dot, Nightforce rings and bases.

1st: 5-shot group, 100yds, Federal "American Eagle" 150gr FMJ-BT, cheap/bulk

Now, admittedly, those aren't F-class or benchrest-winning groups - but for an "out of the box" rifle being shot without any rear sandbag, with its forend rested on my rolled up jacket and spotting scope case, I'll take it! I'm excited to develop some loads and finish fabricating a PROPER benchrest... I have a good feeling about this rifle for sure!

Thanks AGAIN to P&D Enterprises in Edmonton for all their help with this purchase - I've said it before and I'll say it again, but P&D has got to be the finest shop out there; any Edmontonians/Albertans who haven't taken the "P&D Plunge" need to stop waiting and get on it!

My 12fvss, is genuinely capable of .5-.7 all day, and the occasional .29-.35. It's a much more accurate rifle, than the klutz holding it  My best group 2 days ago, was .291" The only poor group was one I fudged up, one flyer one way, another flyer the other way, 1.6" total, .35" three shots in the middle. The only thing I've done, is lowered the accu-trigger all the way down, and mount a Mueller APV 4-14x scope, myself. Of course these are all handloads, I couldn't afford to shoot factory ammo, especially any good stuff, these days. The .291" was with the starting load of 34gr Win 748, 55gr Sierra Blitzkings, in 22-250, Win brass, Win Mag Primers, 2.495" COL.

I can attest to this too... My shooting partner has a 10FCP McMillan and, once he tightened up the action screws, was shooting in the approx. 0.5-0.6 MOA range with factory match ammo.

The action screws were real sloppy when he bought it, for some reason... Check yours, you might be able to improve your results.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a Savage can't shoot damn good.

'Just the guys you think the only way to tight groups and good scores is through their cheque book...

They can't stand it that a sub-$1000 rifle is just as good or better than their much more expensive/prettier rig.

Good tips on the handloads and bedding, fellas - I've heard the bedding suggestion a LOT when it comes to Savages, and just as soon as I figure I need to get over that sort of plateau I'll get on it!

For now, I'm just loving how this bone-stock rifle is shooting... unbelievable.

And caster, I stand corrected... I knew that, but conveniently forgot it in my newfound excitement... must have been the delirium from ringing the gongs at the range with almost boring repeatability all afternoon Weds...

Savage's are ugly. No two ways about it. Of course I LOVE my ugly Savages. They shoot pretty and that is what really counts

I have a 12FV in 243 that I can depend on to shoot 0.75 inches or less unless I screw up. My Model 10FCM Scout hovers around 1-1.25 inches with a scope and is a dream to carry in the bush while dogging.

Now if only they chambered in 6.5x55 or 260 Remington....

Weather or not it's a HB varmint, regular centerfire or muzzle loader, every Savage I've had can shoot better than I can shoot it. Last 116 in 30-06 could shoot 1.25" groups at 200 with handloads, my ml10 shoots 1.5 at 100 with 4227 IMR and 250gr sabots, last 300 win & WSM were 1" guns with factory ammo at 100. These things can shoot!

I haven't seen too many disappointed faces with those rifles, in fact....IIRC some competitions were being won in the states with Savage platforms.
