I've been wanting to take pictures and post the comparisons up here for a while and I've finally come around to it.

In order:

USGI Walnut stock (what does the eagle stamp on the side mean?)
Norinco Chu wood stripped, sanded, varnished and then oiled.
Norinco chu wood.

the Walnut stock is way thinner and more comfortable then the cheap Chinese stock which is pretty fat in comparison.

Nork chu wood striped and tung oilied looks preaty damm good. To bad it doesn't have the longevity as american walnut. But never the less nice work!

Thanks,
the refinished chu wood was a little project I did while working as an apprentice at a local gunsmith. Was fun but i'll probably replace the stock for something more plastic and probably slap a scope on it and dress it up as a DMR :D

the one with the ###y walnut I plan on making her a sweet iron sight rifle. better rear sight, real front flash hider with bayonet lug, a nice leather sling and maybe some other things to make her as accurate as possible while staying simple pretty.

That is a looks like a USGI stock with a aftermarket "Snoopy" DAS Cartouche, It is a fake cartouche that looks kinda like a real Defense Acceptance Stamp that ALL real USGI original issue wood stocks have. Your stock is likely a Real USGI replacement stock that never had a Defence Acceptance Stamp on it. Springfield Armory INC. was selling M1A's a few years ago with largely USGI parts on them and they added that stamp to quite a few of the M1A's they were selling with that USGI M14 replacement stock. It is also possible that someone had a fake cartouche stamp who may have marked your stock as well.

Does the Rinco M14 drop in to the USGI walnut stock or did you have to do some fitting? I am considering one these for my M14 but I am no handy man I wouldn't be able to do any serious fitting.

Mine dropped right into the stock. All I had to do was stick a piece of popsicle stick in to keep the op rod guide pin from coming out. Nothing fancy, just used double sided carpet tape to keep it there.

I like the the opening for the full auto switch. Real easy to get one of Hungry's curved tip syringe in there to grease the tangs on the hammer.

My GI stock that came off a real M14 has the eagle crest too.

Alex: Nice work on the stock, it looks awesome.

Sorry, did the op rod guide pin had anything to do with the stock itself?

The stock has a large gap where the FA components would go in. If you don't do the popsicle stick mod your op rod guide pin WILL walk its way out. Just cut 1 inch of popsicle stick and super glue it in place. I used appoxy.

@Simon:
Its quite possible that it was yours, but now its mine. :D

And it fits like a glove, although I did have to do the popsicle stick mod though.

Great, so all this means that all fiberglass and USGI wood stocks would fit nicely but all you have to do is the popsicle trick, correct?

I had to inlet the right side of the top of an M1A stock to make up for the rail on the Norinco receiver that seems to descend further and is angled on the bottom. If you just dropped it in, the right side would be lifted up and it wouldn't sit level. You might not get the trigger guard to close on it if its really crooked.
