Hi,

I bought a Norinco SKS aboout 5 months ago, brand new in grease. Since then, I've only out about 40 rounds through it. I've become very good at assembling and disassembling it, however, I am still unsure which end of the recoil spring goes into the bolt carrier? Is it the straight end or the twisted up end?

Thanks

My recoil spring is half straight and half curly, like this one

Thanks for your help everyone.

I think you are correct. And my SKSs came the same way as well. In fact, that is how I assemble mine. Am editing preview post.
Thank you for pointing out error.

But the two exploded views below show otherwise????

The exploded views show the disassembled spring assembly. So the spring is not coiled up and is straight. If you look there is no coiled end.

I feel like an a** correcting people, as I just got my SKS about a week ago.

It's about helping each other. We will all be worse off if an error goes uncorrected.

From the way the Large and Small Recoil Spring Guide were oriented, I think the exploded drawings could be wrong, or at least, opposite from the way the recoil spring assembly is installed, as our rifles came from factory/arsenal.

Does mean that the RSA could be inserted either way???

Hide the mess!

Make sure the coiled end of the recoil spring assembly is installed into the rear of the bolt carrier first, leaving the straight end of the spring exposed. Slide the recoil spring assembly all the way forward into rear of the bolt carrier.

(Be certain to reinstall recoil spring with C Clip end forward.)

Also consider for a moment what an unsupported C clip could possibly do under recoil if it is not supported inside the tube of the bolt carrier...

no, recoil spring assy should only be inserted one way , like all other suggested .

the curly part into the carrier , if done backward may still work but will likely damage the recoil spring by the carrier rubbing against it, may also have fail to eject as the spring prevents the carrier from going all the way back smoothly, i heard the spring cap coming off the spring getting unwound inside.

lastly the diagram is not wrong , i can see how you may have thought otherwise but what they illustrated where the small guide would exiting the large guide.
