Just picked up my "new" $1700.00 pistol and when I got home & took it apart to degrease it lo and behold I'm looking down an obviously very copper fouled bore and at a frame with again, obvious powder residue inside. I would have thought that a new pistol, especially one costing this much would have been cleaned prior to leaving the factory. I do not want to name names or smear anyone here as I know that mistakes do happen to the best of us.Still, I do not think that the gun I ordered is the one that I got/ paid for. Has anyone else run into this sort of thing in the past? Is it common ? Not in my past it isn't but I'd just like to hear what the rest of you have experienced when buying "NEW" Mike
 
I do know that all firearms are "proofed" at the factory but the amount of fouling and powder residue is not consistant with that . This gun looks like it was used in a good IPSC match, oiled and stuck back on the shelf. I've been in this game for over twenty years now and I know a dirty gun when I see one! Mike
 
FYI, N.A. guns are test fired only and not proofed. ALL European guns are proofed. Also, many European gun makers will shoot a full clip or full cylinder at a 25 Meter target to verify grouping capabilties with factory ammo. If the gun fails their standard, it goes back to the gunsmiths for some tweaking. It is then reshot. It could happen that the gun was fired several times trying to get it to group. Of course, they don't clean it afterwards.

But to have copper fouling in the lands, it takes a lot of shots to do that. I would speak to your retailer about it. It may be a return.

I got one like yours from Target sport few years ago , but I was told that they shot few mags and price was $ 50 less than a new
 
You paid for a new pistol and you did not get one. You should contact either the Manager or owner where you bought it and give them the chance to make it right. But if they don't, be sure to let us know what dealer it is that does not deserve our business.

I will be talking to the distributer on Monday when they open to resolve the issue and will name names strictly as a last resort. Everyone deserves a chance to correct mistakes when the occur and we all know that's simply the right way to deal with issues that may be something as simple as an inventory control screw up. Mike
 
A $1700 gun you say ?

barrel with heavy copper fouling and lots of powder residue ?

looks like somebody "enjoyed" your gun already before you, maybe some employes putting a few boxes of ammo down range...

This 'pre enjoyment" should send a rebate upwards of $200 in your direction...
 
How does it shoot?

Maybe it shot so well at the factory that everyone had to take a turn......or it was not shooting so well and they had to tweak it.

I received a new revolver once in that condition and I returned it for other reasons..in hind sight I don't think I'd let it bother me if I was happy with the gun.


Edit to add that You'd think on a gun that costs over 700.00 that they could find the time to clean it after testing at the factory.
 
Yes you'd think that a top drawer gun would be cleaned prior to leaving the manufactuer's inventory. As to my testing the gun for grouping, that will not happen as this would then put the distributer in the position of being able to say that I had used the gun myself and my complaint is bogus. As far as that goes they could claim that I'm full of it anyway and that they would never send out a gun in this condition period . We'll see what happens !!!
 
Take some pictures of how it arrived and then take it to the range.....once you start tearing up the middle of your target your feelings towards the new gun may change. :D

Most likely whoever sold it will suggest you return it if you are not satisfied....You'd hate to think that you let a sweet shooter pass you buy just because she needed a bath.

If I get another "brand new" dirty gun, I figure a couple mags or cylinders at the range won't change the condition, and would at least let me know if it's a good gun or not.

I did not shoot the revolver I returned but in hindsight I probably should have as I still wonder how it would have shot.

Polygonal barrels foul less than traditional ones.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet. If someone wanted to scam you and sell you a used gun for the price of a brand new one, you'd think they would clean the gun first to make the scam less obvious. I've seen brand new guns that arrived looking dirty before (the CZ SP-01 that I briefly owned had major copper fouling in the barrel, yet the box arrived with unbroken CZ factory wrapping).

What kind of gun are we talking about and where did you buy it? Also, post some pics of the condition it arrived in.

Talked to the distributer today and with no hesitation was told to return it right away or I could have an immediate refund if I so desired.They are taking another one out of inventory and setting it aside for me to be shipped ASAP with an apology for the screw-up.I am happy with their response and will be happy to continue giving them my business. The gentleman that I talked to seemed genuinely upset that I received a used gun!!! As I said before I will not name names or slam somebody for an honest mistake ....no one's perfect(lest of all me) and mistakes do happen to the best of us from time to time. Mike
