I just got back from shooting over 200 gophers( I am in Alberta) The MPK-16 worked well for teh close in stuff. I was using the Marlin for anything over 50 meters. My tasco scope died on the last 10 rnds :( I will be getting anw oen tommorow at wholesale adn going back out for round two :)

I found the yellowjackets turned most gophers inside out. The CCI and the Game shocks not so well. Good thing I only have 52 lbs of Yellow jackets left ;)

I tried a few Yellow Jackets this weekend and they really open up those gophers, better than the CCI Velocitors I have been using. I may have to do some accuracy testing soon, I chose the Velocitors as my gopher round cause they are the most accurate in my gun, even better than expensive target ammo. But if the Yellow Jackets group well I may switch.

I may need to revise my opinion of Remington ammo....:p
You could also try 'penning' your favorite (accurate in your rifle) HP ammo. Use a Bic pen to open up the hollow point of your favorite ammo. It works pretty well from my limited tests. This pic is of Federal AE and Winchester Power Points given the 'Pen" trick. It didn't make much of a difference with the Power Points. It's kind of like a poor man's Paco Tool. The accuracy of the AE seems to be the same also.

Remington ammo is filthy and inconsistent IMO. Though my experiences with squirrel prove the YJs sure do open little critters up. CCI stinger and quik-shok are hands down the best if your gun will shot them. Velocitor is meant for large(r) game, it really does a number on badgers but just zips through gophers.
