I was on the lookout for a good, sturdy rifle rest. While surfing the other night, I cam across a website that sells rifle rests made from tripods. I had a very sturdy tripod that I don't use much, and collected a few bits from the wood pile. 10 minutes on the table saw, and this is my portable long range rest.

It's very heavy, and allows me a lot of adjustment for shooting up and down. It is really better than I expected for shooting. I was shooting CB's in my yard with the 10/22 and it worked well. I have an armature that will connect to a spotting scope, and a small steel table that connects to the centre post.
It's a running joke with Mysticplayer how little time I have to shoot these days (work is good) but with this I hope to make the prospect of getting out to shoot a little more pleasurable.
It cost about $3 to make. (minus the tripod - which should be around the $300 mark - but I was given it by a sales rep)
