Is it:

A. Physically possible

B. Legal

to install a 2-shot mag extension on a Remmy 1100 G3? Forget about hunting regs- I'm just thinking it would be nice to have a mag capacity of 5 for target shooting, and seeing that the factory tube holds 3 rounds, the 2-shot extension would fit the bill and still meet the legal requirements of a semi-auto centerfire.........

I have done it.
It's great for playing around with clay pigeons.

I had to dent the tube at the right place so that it would hold only five, becasue with the plug out and a 2 shot extension it will hold six in the tube. I also cut a plug to the right length to match the dent so the follower doesn't get hung up.

Have fun!

A semi-auto magazine is legal to hold 5 shells of the type the gun was designed for. So if it's designed to shoot 3" shells, you can have up to FIVE 3" shells in mag tube.

If the same magazine is able to contain SIX 2-3/4" shells, or more of the Aquila 2-1/2" shells, you're legal to do so. Good luck cycling the Aquial's though.

... and yes they are 4+1 from factory, but it doesn't mean he can't have 5+1 3" shells with an extension.

I was just saying if it's a 4+1 but he can only fit 3+1...stop using 3" shell..wink wink laugh laugh.

Ohh, I got that ... :D

However, the gun will take FOUR 3" shells in the mag tube, not just three. Plus 1 in the chamber.

Have the police ever given anyone trouble over this? I could easily see an officer being upset after loading that sixth 2.75" shell...

Gun was designed for 3" shells, so it can only hold 5 of those. If there were 1" shells, you could used how ever many fit in there. So 6 X 2 3/4" isn't a problem, for range use, but it would be for hunting I think.

I understand that, but do the people with the badges? For one thing I'm not overly certain that every cop knows that there's more than one available length of shotshell.

It doesn't matter, ask for the duty Sergeant and to look it up in the Firearms Act. Or carry one with you if you're overly concerned.

I've never heard of a cop counting how many rounds fit in a mag tube. Now, if you rob a bank with it, you'll have bigger issues to worry about.

I guess it would depend on what is stamped on the barrel.

My Benelli M4, for example, is chmabered for ' 2-3/4" and 3" ' shells.

If it JUST says ' 3" ' on the barrel (or receiver) then you can put 5 of those in.

Like said, in my M4, even though they wont cycle, the "mini" shells, i could probably jam 10 or 12 of those in. But since I am chambered for 2-3/4" and 3", I can hold 5 2-3/4", or 4 3" shells. Or as many as I can if they are smaller.

I'm pretty sure your M4 says 2-3/4" or 3". I'm pretty sure it will hold FIVE 3" shells too.

It seems there's a lot of grey area here, if your barrel says "2 3/4" on it, who's to say they don't figure on that being the designed ammunition, regardless if there's a "3" stamped beside it as well?

we do make some very nice +2 mag tubes if your intrested, but liek others have posted be ready to get problems if your asked how many rounds your gun holds.
