M14 Mag lubrication?

I actually talked to Kevin Keon (does gunsmithing here).. he was saying getting lube on the cases and in the chamber would essentially make every load you shot a "blue pill load" and its REALLY hard on the action.

Clean and dry is the way to go. Make sure the bottom of your bolt is clean as well.

Lube on a cartridge case can drive up chamber preasure, create more force on the locking lugs than they were ever designed to take and wreck your gun. Lubing the inside of a magazine will transfer some of the lube to the case and kill you.

Were did you get such an idea?

PS. Brendon, thanks for the match photo's, I sent them on to the new people that were in them and they were thrilled!

It shouldn't do any harm to have the spring and the outside lightly oiled to keep rust away. So long as the surfaces you oil don't transfer it to the cartridges.

I didn't "get such an idea". I was merely asking. Thanks for the posts though. I do keep the mags clean and dry. On few occasions though, when I loaded the mag in place and pulled on the op rod to chamber the round, the bolt just didn't move but rather was stuck and didn't move forward. I had to yank it again and release. I thought that perhaps the mag being dry was too rough to slide the round easily out of it. But looks like the problem lies elsewhere.

abas, some milsurp ammo is really rough. I notice that after using a new mag for a while, it developes a brass streak on the follower. I'm imagine that with use its getting polished where the cartridge case slides over it and that friction is reduced as it wears in.
