Hey Guys:

Looking for some help from the experts!!!

I would like to know the value of two rifles I own.

The first is a 99% DOT K98 German mauser in 8mm (1944). The rifle is a numbers matching gun, as far as I can tell the numbers have not been forced matched. The serial numbers are on everything including the stock, and the rifle has not been fired, it has only been cylced a couple of times. There are no peen marks and a few minor "safe" kisses!!

The second is a 1899 k96 Swedish Mauser numbers matching and it has the dial rear "target" sight, the tag states that it has a number 1 barrel and as far as I know it has never been fired also??!!! Any idea what rear sight is called and why is it "different" than the swede I have that I mounted a scope to that had the "millitary" style battle rear sight???

Any info will be much apreciated!!

Thanks
Paul

Swedish M96 manufactured 1899 has a "Vasteras" dial elevation rear sight so it can use the 139 gr pointed military ball instead of the 152 round nose early military ball. The 139 gr and 152 gr have different trajectories thus requiring different elevation settings. If the disc is stamped 1 as to condition then it has probably been fired.

Probably a member," joe n" could tell you about your German 98K

See the pcitues of this rifle.

Nice dot44.
At todays prices at least $1000+. Some may say less, but it would stay in my safe it I couldn't get at least that out of it.
Really nice WWII mausers that haven't been refurbed or restamped are getting quite scarce and demand a premium price.
There are lots of mixmasters out there and even though they have a lot of character and are just dying to tell their stories, the mint specimens definitley have more appeal.

Nice rifles, both of them! About the k98:
Would have to see a few more pics to be certain it has not been reworked postwar. The Czechs and East Germans did a beautiful job restorinbg these in many cases.
A DOT1944, depending on the suffix, should have a stamped triggerguard and may or may not have a takedown disc in the stock, or may or amy not have a cleaning rod. Either or both of these factors can affect the value considerably. JMHO
Regardless, beautiful rifles once again, thank you for showing:)

bearhunter, actually this is an east german/czech refurb so its worth half that or a bit more. The swaticas are peened, the bluing is perfect and the wood is mint...sound original? If it were an original k98 it would easily go for well over 1k. Unfortunately all we have in canada are refurbs because not many made it here after the war and those that did have been hoarded :(

And I have one that I got for $225 --- 3 years ago. :dancingbanana:

You never know what you will find out there.

9mm-S , from the pics provided, I don't know how you can tell the swastikas were peened.
By 1944, many factories were fitting whatever parts were on hand so as to a stamped trigger guard, it's entirely possible that a milled guard was used and if it bears the proper serial number, I rest my case.
If on the other hand you are correct about the peened swastikas, I agree with your assessment

Possible, I have the original picts from apapro, The top of the action looks like it "MAY" of had a dirty bird on the front of the ring... Not all refurbs had the swastikas peened.

This was my East geman rebuild. Note dirty bird under the East german proofs, see the same stamp in front of the barrel ring. sorry for the big pict.

More pics are needed of the complete bolt and better, clearer pics of the dirty birds and serial numbers. We still can't tell what it is or isn't or even put a value on it with those pics.
