I just joined Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club today!!:dancingbanana:

I am actually pretty excited. They seem to have everything there. I have the firearms required to use the Rifle Range to its maximum potential, but the shotgun section of the safe is a little bare.

The only Shotgun I own is a Remington 1100 full Choke Barrel. Not good for the Skeet, Clays or Trap from what I understand.

I am sure that this has been asked before and those people who get sick of answering the same questions just don't reply. I don't want to hear how to use the search function or anything wise like that.:kickInTheNuts:

All I want to know is what is a practical entry level Shotgun for S,T and Clays and how much should it cost new. I can use the EE based on the new price.

Looked like everyone there was using a break action gun????

I am new to the shotgun games as well I have only been a member of my local club for a couple weeks, but as I understand it for getting started a really good fitting shotgun is all that matters. If it doesn't fit and you can't break birds then It doesn't matter the make or price range. Interchangeable choke is a nice feature aswell.

I don't think I would get hung up on spending big $$ and going all out on new guns till you get your shooting down. My buddy shoots all three games with a Mossberg pump and he does quite well. The key it seems to me is to make friends with some of the more experienced shooters, and shoot and shoot and then shoot some more :) :)

I will let the more experienced shotgunners on here give you the real advice this is just what I have observed from my limited experience.

I use a Remington 870 for everything; less than $500 new, interchangeable chokes, and can use it for hunting, skeet, trap, sporting clays, whatever. I got mine chambered for 3 1/2" shells so it's a "one-gun fits all" kinda thing.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that 1100 you got in the safe is an excellent trap gun, especilly for beginners. I shoot trap with an 1100 in full choke and do very well for myself with it. Take it out, use it and get good. After a while you can invest in a fancy "trap gun" like a browning o/u or something.

Nothing wrong with a Remington 1100. Lots of trapshooters never used anything else. Legendary trapshooter D.Lee Braun used an 1100. Maybe yours is a field model as opposed to a trap model and that's how you got the initial advice.
If you get really serious about trap, skip the Browning and move up to a Ljutic, Perazzi or Krieghoff. :)

Greens 11 Use your 1100 with the fixed full choke for trap and have fun.You could probably pick up a spare barrel with choke tubes at Gagnons or Ellwood Epps and then you would have everything covered.Failing that there is a member at the club that can thread your existing barrel for choke tubes.(Just ask at the clubhouse.)Once you get the fundamentals down then start looking for another gun and the madness will begin!(LOL). Cheers BAC4

:agree:

I have shot lots of trap with my 11-87 and my mossberg pump. You don't need an O/U to enjoy the shotgun games. The semi is a little nicer than the pump if you are going to be shooting a lot of rounds. You may want to get a shell-catcher for the 1100 though, to avoid it throwing hulls at the shooter on your right.

As for extra barrels, be careful. Some newer 1100 barrels are not interchangeable with the older 1100 shotguns. Find out before you put the $$ down on one...

So from what I can get from this so far.

Full Choke = Trap
What is the recommended for??
???????? = Sporting Clays
???????? = Skeet

Is it IM?
