Decided on a .270, now what brand?

A pal of mine like to have a light easy to carry rifle but prefers long barrels and has just bought a .280. If you are of the same mind, a 26" Weatherby might also be your best bet. I wouldn't allow one on the property, but the guys who like em, like em a lot.

The big price tag and long wait times to get your cooper are probably why you dont hear about them so much. They are only a couple hundred $$ more than a sako 85 but IMHO a way better buy. I beleive that prophet river has a .270 in stock so you don't even have to wait for it.

Yes, we have one 270 left. One just sold a few days ago; we also have them ordered in the Jackon game and hunter and excalibers.

I have a Remington 700 CDL in 270 Winchester. The 270 is a great chambering, and I would ignore all the suggestions for alternative choices given. My CDL is blessed with very nice lumber, and on top of it, shoots spectacularly!! It is not unusual for it to place three shots [140 Accubond, N165 powder] into 1" or so at 200 meters. It is also a non-fussy rifle, shooting 110's, 130's 140's and 150's well. I have never regretted buying this rifle. FWIW, it is the rifle that lays claim to my longest shot on big game. One shot, double lung on a muley. Regards, Eagleye.
I have to agree that the .270 is a great choice. Hey, the late Jack O'Connor was sold on it so 'nuff said ! I have a Rem 700 BDL Custom Deluxe which is a relatively inexpensive rifle that looks really nice and, most importantly, shoots wonderfully. Flat shooting, hard hitting, sweet to reload and wide availability of factory ammo makes .270 as good a choice as 30-06 for nearly all hunting applications IMHO.

I'd vote for the CDL, too. I have only one .270 but it is on the standard, vintage BDL model.
Wouldn't feel disadvantaged with a Tikka or Ruger 77 [either tangsafety model or the MkII] either.

Where'd you get the lace-on carrier Popcan?
I have a Remington 700 CDL in .270 and it is my favourite gun in my collection. Beautiful gun, feels amazing to bring up.. I topped it with a Leupold VX-II, and it is a wonderful combination. I got my CDL used for $680 shipped with a very good bedding job, a nice crisp 3.5# trigger, and less then 10 shots down the pipe. Not everyone gets so lucky with a deal like that though =) The gun is definitely accurate as well. It is easily a 1 MOA kind of gun.. I took my first deer last fall with one-shot of a 130 grain Winchester Powerpoint (not the best hunting bullets, I know, but I had three shots all touching with it when I sighted it in the weekend before deer hunting, so I decided to stick with it), and the doe didn't take a step
