Either a Marlin 795 but they say the plastic trigger guard is junk. Or a Mossberg 702 plinkster but they say has a terribe trigger pull. Or a savage 64g or a Remington 597 that most say are junk.Any advice would be appeciated thanks.

I just got a Savage with the BTV stock. For me it comes up nicely to the shoulder prone or standing. I'm glad I tried it because the looks didn't grab me at first (wanted something more traditional looking) But to bring it to target feels right for me.

I think it's worth looking at if you go the 64 route.

New .22

I would buy a ruger 10/22. You have a wide choice of accessories with this gun as well. With a price that is pretty reasonable.

Well, I have a 10/22 and while it isn't fancy or modded up, it shoots just fine out to 120. My little cooey bolt action repeater is prolly more accurate, but semi-auto sure is nice on a hive of baby grass rats! Without having any idea what your main purpose is, that is really all the input I can give.

I bought a TOZ-99 from Kodiak Outpost. It seems solid enough for what I paid. If it ever breaks down "badly", I can buy something else.

That being said, they are mass produced in a large Russian factory that makes many other durable guns.

I agree with M12Shooter - I just bought a CZ 452 Lux. It is fairly priced and has classic lines, nicely balanced with 24.8" barrel. I took it to the shooting range last week and was impressed with its accuracy - just love it.

For the price of a Marlin, I expect everything to be made of out solid steel.

For half the price, I'll accept the plastic trigger-guard on my Savage, at roughly the same accuracy.

++ on the Savage Mark II. Some reviews on the net say the MKII had a plastic trigger guard.... for sure the BTVS now comes with a metal guard as I think all MKII's do.

The Heavy Barrel 10/22 is nice also. Saving up for that one.

Unfortunately, only the BTVS has a metal guard. I hope so, it commands an upmark of at least an extra hundred dollars anywhere you look, usually more.

My Mark II from last year's batch is plastic, I just fondled the "new" stock (albeit a righty one), yep, plastic still.

My rem. 597 yellowjacket shoots very well. Better than my 10-22s. my son (adult) was hitting gophers at 100-120 yds regular. I still like a bolt and was using a Rem 541 at the same range. Just .02 from out here. AJ
