I have a CZ 858 from Frontier with a hooded front sight. I just got another one from Wolverine and it is not hooded (upper portion removed and open)

Are these rifles the same other than the sights? Is this something new with the latest shipment?

i have a CZ858 with open hood but its not a recent import , maybe a 2006 .

could your CZ858 from frontier be earlier than 2006?

maybe you could start comparing the two and post more differences . how about the trigger guard?

All of these guns are basically created from Frankenparts, so I'm sure there isn't any consistency with what type of sight you are going to get.

Just got my new CZ-858-2 from Wolverine. It has the non-full hood front sight. Overall, I really like the rifle. Good fit and finish. Some milling marks, but actually they look right for the type of rifle it is. Looks like mine is a shooter too if the test target is any indication!:)

Finns always preferred open exposed blade front sights on their Mosins and, when given time, they systematically replaced the russian hooded ones on every captured M-91/30.
Reason: snow can be removed easily from an exposed blade.
Protective ears such as the ones on Enfields or partly cut-off hoods are one of the best designs for combat conditions.
PP.

The open top front sights were used first, until sometime around 64 when they switched to the full circle. I prefer the full circle hoods as it makes for a fast acquisition sight, instead of using the tiny post you just encircle center of mass with the sight base. This only works if the rifle is on target when the windage drum is near centered in the fsb, and can be done with the open sight as well but isn't as natural. However for precise shooting in low light conditions the open top is better.

According to the target mine was shot on 4-9-09,and it has the full hood. The gun looks nicer than I expected. Might have to get my RPAL now so I can try and find a restricted one with the folding stock and shorter barrel.
