Use the search function and you will find heaps of info on these guns. Yes they are excellent hunting rifles and for the money, in my opinion, you can't even come close buying a new "modern" gun. Some are 96's (small ring) some are 98's ( large ring) some are 1640's (combination of both) You can get them in 8x57, 9,3x57 or 62, 270 win,308 and 30-06. More rare is 6.5x55 and 7x57. At 350-600$ in 30-06 you get a hell of a good rifle that will take anything in NA, if you do your part.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, it has a table explaining all the different Husqvarna repeating bolt action variants:

The earliest models were the Model 46s, which used a Mauser 96 type action. Next came various models using either German (pre-war) or Belgian FN Mauser 98 actions. The 1640 action was developed from the 96 action, and is similar to a 98 with a third safety lug on the bolt. The final action design was the 1900, which was a push feed and not at all a Mauser style action.

Your friend's Model 3000 would be built on the 1640 action.

Husqvarnas are great rifles. The best ones (if you want a Mauser bolt action) are probably the FN 98's. The model 1600's are good too, I own examples of both, and have used them for years. You will not find the same quality of gun manufactured today, unless you are willing to part with a whole lot of cash. As for 8x57 ammo, buy the European manufactured cartridges only. The North American 8x57 cartridges are anemic to say the least. The 8x57 cartridge itself is vastly under rated by most people. I've actually shot the majority of my game with this cartridge, including antelope, deer and moose. And yes, you definetly can mount a scope on them.

Not all Husky's are drilled and tapped for scopes but they can be and you may also need to change the safety to make it useable with a scope. Depends on the vintage.

They are a great value for a hunting rifle. Call or email them with your needs - they will happily take care of you. Their service is top notch.
