Opinion on aimpoint optics

Hey guys, Been down at Dave's Surplus looking at their aimpoints. Was really keen on the aimpoint m4s...just wondering what guys were recommending? I like the micro 1 but for the extra few bucks it seems the m4 is the way to go...albeit, pricey.

opinions?
 
Aimpoint is THE standard when it comes to red dot scopes.

They are pricey, but (IMHO) they are well worth it. You can buy them used in the EE. I have a micro, and think it's awesome.

If you're buying for an AR, keep in mind the stock micro mount will not work (too low). You'll need a riser which can be tough to find.
 
Best to try as many as you can, including the EOTech's. It's mostly a personnel preference thing, they all work pretty well.
 
You won't go wrong with any model Aimpoint, IMO. I've got a 6 year old Comp M2 that's still on it's original battery.

A buddy has an Eotech 551 that eats batteries like a kid eats candy. It's great for practicing using his BUIS.

Except the Aimpoint will survive anything and last 10 years on a single battery. Don't forget to mention that. The EOTech provides a nice big window and a fun reticle, but is not a serious combat optic.

You're ####ting me right? The biggest and only real complaint about the EOTech's is how they eat batteries (<1000 hours, vs. about 4000 hours on an Aimpoint).
 
Aimpoints recent won over Eotech should say it all, 750,000 M4's purchased for US military service, my preference is the T1 wit a riser mount and I am currently running a total of seven units, mounted on shotguns and black rifles.

Ummmm......fellas, first off the Eotech is a very serious "combat sight" and this is what is was designed from the outset as. SOCOM uses the 553 for CQB "in place of" the Aimpoints that they were using for years (mainly M2 Comps). You may still see some Aimpoints but the majority of these type of shooters use the Eotech now.

Aimpoint has long supplied the US military with CQB red dots sights....this is true. They have indeed sold many thousands to them. The average GI has no choice in the kit that he may use including stuff bought on his own dime. However, US speacial forces (SEAL, Delta, etc) do have great latitude in what they can use and the vast majority now use the Eotech 553 SOCOM exclusively.....

I own several Aimpoint products (M2 Comp) as well as many Eotech`s (553 incl). I do prefer the Eotech (my preference).

If you are going to use the Aimpoint product on an AR, get a M2 Comp with QRP mount.....basically what the Rangers still use! I run this setup on a 14.5" carbine and love it! Don`t really need to spend all that dough on the M4....

Yes, Dave`s is a great place to shop! Just bought an Elcan Spectre DR from him..............

WHAT???!! Tell that to the thousands of soldiers (the good guys) using them daily , in combat! Se what they say.

You must have missed the directive when SOCOM was ordered to shelf all the 553's, due to battery compression issues that led to contact failure that led to no reticle function, Eotech is a good sight system but talk to Pat Rogers from EAG and ask him how many Eotech's have died in his classes and what sights continue to work under all the abuse his firearms undergo.

I got rid of a 553 for a T1 for several reasons. Beyond the obvious reasons of battery life and a simpler more reliable construction, I also got rid of the 553 because there was no warranty support for it here, and I wasn't sure what I would do with it once it had failed. Also, despite what people say about the field of view in the big window, I found that the 553 was just heavier and bulkier than I needed it to be. It's like having a brick mounted on your rifle, instead of the slim compact profile of the T1.
 
You want an Aimpoint T-1 Micro, its the new standard for close quarter optics.

Others have mentioned the Eotechs short comings. Interestingly enough the units and individuals MOST interested in purchasing Aimpoints at CANSEC last month were guys suffering from being issued Eotechs.

The correct life for an Aimpoint M4 is about 80000 hours. The T1, 50000. That means you turn them on, leave them on, and just change the battery every leap year. They come out of the safe ready to go.

I like the M4 for ruggedness, common battery (AA), and proper scope caps instead of a bikini cover like the T1 - but if you want a lightweight build, go instead with the T1.
 
I have a CompML3 with 2 MOA dot on my M14 and I love it. with both eyes open you dont even see the optic. Just a dot in your field of view. I will be buying another one for an AR build.
 
The Micro is fantastic. Probably the best optic I've had for anything under 200m at appropriate targets. I would rather a short dot but the price is hard to handle.

EOTECHs are nice but my limited experience with them tells me they are inferior to the aimpoint.
