LAR 15 Mags

Questar's site says they're taking orders for their next shipment. I got a couple from thier last bunch and their service was excellent. Good communication and very quick shipping.
 
Well crap.

Ryan, Sal shipped out an order for 5 for me today that I thought were .223. Did he ship 9mm mags???

If so, can we turn that order around and have you send the .223 mags when they come in? I will pay the freight, sorry for the misunderstanding...

Deamon971, yes the LAR-15 mags are unpinned 10 rd and it is perfectly legal as they are marked as pistol mag and was designed to be use in a LAR pistol.

We had a small number of mags that we held for our own builds. We released those and that's why your order got filled now instead of in a week when the next shipment arrives. You were one of the lucky ones who got their order now.

If you ordered .223/5.56 mags then that's what Sal shipped you.

PS... "Sal" is a she... short for Selena

Hi Chemist, I just got some from Questar two days ago. I had placed an order expecting delivery sometime later in the summer due to demand, but lo and behold there they were. By the way - service was excellent from Questar.
 
Okay, so given a pistol that came with a 15rnd mag years ago that was pinned to ten is legal. So why not pin a 30 etc to a ten and scribe LAR on it, or do we need to take it to court?

Already been taken to court. There are like a thousand threads why the LAR15 10 round mags exist and why they are the ONLY ones allowed to be 10 rounds.

Well..... Not really a thousand :D. A whole bunch of them though over the years. In a nutshell, the pistol mag in a handgun was designed for a pistol, thus it could be reduced. The 30 round AR mags (or 20, 25, 40 etc.) were designed for a rifle and thus could only be reduced to 5, since that was the law for a semi-auto center fire rifle. To get a 10 round one, it had to be completely redesigned to be distinctly different for the AR PISTOL. They first tried to just pin a 30 rounder to 10 and mark it, but it didn't fly because it was a rifle mag adapted to a pistol, and had to be 5 rounds. So the redesign with a significant enough different shape was enough to pass mustard and be declared a unique pistol mag and could be 10 rounds. They are allowed to be used in any AR because the law states that it is based on what the magazine was designed for (AR Pistol so 10 rounds) and not what it is used in (AR rifle or AR pistol). Clear as mud now?

silly laws only effect law the people that want to be legal about while the criminal will just buy the 30 round and laugh at the law.. Make sence though.. because there are probly other pistal mags that would work in other rifles same basic shap and fuction..
