I received this SVT-40 a few weeks back, and I noticed two of the rare features of refurb SVT-40s in this one rifle.

Frist of all it's a Kovrov arsenal model with distinctive markings. Second it's in an AVT-40 stock, not an SVT-40 stock. I wonder if its actually not that weird of a combination, as there's another one like it on Surplusrifleforum.

The difference is that my rifle was never an AVT-40 (as evidenced by the cutouts in the compensator), but sits in an AVT stock.

The trigger guard is also a Kovrov arsenal model. I wonder how common this is? It seems unlikely that two Kovrov parts would somehow find eachother again.

Funkin eh learn something and see something new everyday.

Might I ask where you sourced it? Could be possible there are more AVT part bearing rifles out there.

I bought it off another CGNer sight unseen. I had no idea it was a Kovrov and the AVT cutout is easy enough to miss.

I wonder if there are folks out there who have the AVT muzzle brake but don't know it. The difference is quite dramatic. Hopefully they're not considered CA in Canadian law. They were converted back to semi in the factory.

They are not uncommon. Be careful what you say on here. I got reprimanded a while ago for thinking out loud. We have to all march in step, you know....:p

I thought the "fun switch" cut out as you show it was just the space for the safety tab to restin. If that cut out indicates an AVT stock I have one too, only its on a non-refurbed Finnish battlefield pickup.

The AVT stock has the cutout on BOTH sides. The SVT stock has the cutout on ONE side (the left).

AVT stocks arent too uncommon, you see them quite a bit...its the naval stocks that are rarer. I prefer AVT stocks, no worry about cracking. Im not sure what you mean by AVT muzzle brake? IIRC there were two types of muzzle brakes on svt's the earlier 8 or 6 or however many holes there are and the later 4 hole ones.

Good! Glad to see this thread was helpful. Your rifle may have been an AVT. Of course, as you point out, the late SVTs had that type of muzzle brake too.
