I have a Colt New Service Revolver in 455 Webley and was taking some photos of it today. I noticed a small mark forward of the trigger on the left side which left me curious. Any idea what 'VP' in a triangle might refer to on this revolver? Lots of Brit proofs but nothing Canadian that I could find. I can't get the grips off to look deeper as the screw head is well-stripped and I don't want to damage it further if I can avoid it. Any thoughts?

"viewer's proof" or "visible proof" or "verified proof" (depending on the reference). Commonly found on the 1911 as well.

Colt's "final" inspection mark indicating the arm in question is fully proven in all respects.

Friggen sweet! The things you learn here. And in under 20 minutes too! :D

Thanks.

Also found on some AR15 models produced by Colt. Mostly seen on the upper reciever on the right side front, near where the carry handle attaches, either on the fixed handle or flat top.
