HELP!!! Brand new Tikka T3 bolt issue

on disrespect:)
I like the quality of your many posts, but...
please enlighten...
1) explain camming power.
2) all mauser styles ie ruger bolt actions?

1) On bolt action rifles, as the bolt handle is raised, the turning of the bolt slowly moves the bolt rearward, by a camming action. In an automobile engine, the cam shaft makes a half turn, to raise a valve, maybe ¼ inch. This also, is a camming action.
With the rifle, lifting the bolt handle full up, may move the bolt only about 1/8 inch back, thus giving great power to break the case loose. In the case of the Tikka they are talking about, something is wrong, because the bolt handle appears to be lifted full up, but the case didn't break loose. Granted, the case must be stuck, which usually means a heavily overloaded cartridge. A dirty chamber can add to the sticking, even allowing a moderate heavy load to stick the case.
I have removed stuck cases from bolt action rifles. One instance, a 308 Norma Magnum, was with a factory loaded cartridge in a new rifle. No way could the bolt be opened by hand power. It took a hard swat with a piece of spruce 2 x 4 to lift the bolt handle. But when the handle was pounded up, the empty case came freely out.
The same thing happened with a 243. Again, when a hard swat with a solid piece of wood raised the bolt handle, the empty came freely out.
It sounds like theTikka bolt handle is raised, but the case won't come out. That is why I stated there seemed to be something wrong, maybe with the camming action of the bolt.

2) Mauser made the patented design that all other bolt actions are built around. In 1903 when the US military designed the 1903 (later the 1906) Springfield, 30-06, they were sued by the German firm for alleged infringing on the Mauser patent. It is well recognized that the original Mauser 98 is a better action than is the Springfield, with its slight changes.
Such actions as the P14, P17, Model 70 Winchester, various Remingtons, etc, etc, are all, sometimes loosely, referred to as Mauser actions.
The 77 Ruger is a darn good example of a Mause type action.
Please don't come up with the push feed, controlled feed bit. We don't have time or space for all details.

I have never had a cartridge stuck in the chamber of a Mauser type action but i have from various newer(improved?) actions. One just has to look at the extractor on a Mauser then on a Rem. or Tikka or whatever.

After reading this thread I just went down to my safe and lovingly ran a gun cloth over my Swedish Mausers.

I hope the Original poster can get the issues with his rifle sorted out.

Well time for an update.... this is my 2nd tikka, 1st 300wsm and have never had a tikka problem before... ammo I was using was win. supreme elite xp3 180gr. so yes it was the fancy nickle plated polycarbonate black coated higly overpriced stuff... I agree that it is a shell issue, I also agree that nickle can and may play a part (expansion factor) etc. etc.... needless to say, since it only had 6 shots through it I brought it to the dealer, and it's now on its way to Stoeger(shudder).

Update #2: Dealer says that stoeger is going to polish the chamber, and that the tolerances are off and caused it to stick.... should have it back in 2 to 3 weeks... what do you think?

bull biscuits

There's a reason Rigby, Holland & Holland, Jeffery, Westley Richards, Griffin & Howe, Hoffman Arms etc etc have used the mauser action in their rifles, it's about thee strongest action out there (98). I wouldn't piss on a mauser action, it has PROVEN performance.

If i wanted to debate mauser vs. everything else i would have started a poll.... this is purely a technical post based on those who have what I have, post the mauser patriot crap somewhere else...p.s. I have a mauser too.

Easy there Chief. The comment wasn't directed at you (Fishx). Not trying to derail your post or be a thread :pirate:. Hope things with the Tikka turn out fine.
P.S. I have a Tikka as well.

shogi, you got it 100% wrong about me.
Here is what I said Bull Biscuits to.
This was the post by the fellow I answered.

"Tikka is twice the rifle mauser is. its just bad ammo."

And that is exactly what I was referring to as well, I was just a little late on the reply. Didn't see there was another page to the thread at the time.
I'm not being rude to Mike, just think things got mixed a little by the late reply. Sorry for the confusion.
