I've been getting the urge to buy another handgun. I'm leaning towards a Sig but the number of models has me lost. The 226 seems to be the most popular but there's about 15 226's. I want to stay with 9mm or 45 since I already shoot them. Are some better then others or is it mostly cosmetic.

Used works too, is there something nice they don't make anymore? Did quality get better or worse at any point?

Thanks.

IMO if you have a little extra money get something with the Black nitron finish and , maybe 3 dot night sites if you prefer. I have had a few Sigs with this finish and have been impressed on how wear resistant they are.

I know for used there have been different generations, one big change would be going from the internal extractor to external. However I don't know to much about the generations other than that.

Pick a model on which fits best in your hand since you can generally get the options( finish, night sites, DA/SA or DAK trigger) you want with any model.

P220- slimmer(single stack) grip
P226- Fatter standard grip
P229- Fatter shorter grip
P239- thin(single stack) short grip

and the list goes on.

P&D has a P229 for under $1K. Excellent deal for a very good compact pistol that doesn't look too ridiculous with the 106mm barre.

The dark elite is looking better and better to me. Adjustable combat sights, threaded barrel option, aluminum grips, much better then the wood grips unless you have really big hads. The combat has phosphated internals but regular night sights and the grips are plastic.

I bought an elite stainless and am now ordering factory plastic grips. Also it's a bit of tap and try to sight in.

How hard is it to find a P210 these days?

One WTB in the exchange and no posts for sale.

Sound advice from cwblackwell88

A good fit is the best place to start. The bells and whistles are nice but all amount to nothing if the feel ain't right.

I agree that the non-railed guns are ###ier, but white light is absolutely necessary in a firearm...buy the P226 (insert caliber) with the rail man...you will kick yourself if you don't.

Is the SRT (short resest) is different from the DAK (?).

The local shops only have the refurb models in stock. Questar seems to have lots but if I'm going to mail order I rather not pay the PST. Does anywhere else have good stock?

Thanks for the advice. I think I want 226 in 9mm now.

Very different. Also don't confuse the SRT with the "short trigger", because they're totally different things. It's the SRT that you want. You'll really notice the difference in single-action when you're shooting a quick string of shots.

I like the P226 Blackwater, it comes with 5 mags from the factory. It also has the SRT trigger and rear night sight and a fiber optic front sight.

This is a great thread as I too am confused (easily) by all the different models. I'm hoping to buy a 220 and a 226.

Yes, SIG does have alot of differnt models now. The SIG website lists most of the models with good descriptions of each of them...also visit sigforum for additional info.

I have a question regarding some of the P229R guns out right now, are the 106mm barrels factory Sig or aftermarket?. If they are factory Sig then that sure changes things for me atleast...
