BCRA Tactical Rifle Championship 2009

I'll disagree with HD on this one, I like seeing individual scores and prizes, the top shooter does deserve acknowledgement, but perhaps next year we can also rotate not just relays, but shooters on each team, to make it a little more fair? does that make sense?
 
I think the reasoning behind individual scores was twofold.

a) people who show up solo and get squaded with whomever and b) cutting an timberwolf or a shotgun in half kinda messes up the prize :D

That would help... I guess what ever gets more guys out is the way to go, just thought I'd get in my idea on this while it is fresh in my head.

Another point to consider is not to publish a course of fire but just to say what the min number of rounds and gear is and at what distances you should be prepared to shoot.

PS... bring back the gas mask shoot, that was blast before :)

Oh sure... just when I thought I might know what I am doing:kickInTheNuts:. This is one way to get me to shoot. I will sell my wifes car and buy a rifle.
Slavex, does this mean you will be doing the scoring :D ?
I would like it if you guys rotated the target lanes because if you are shooting on the outside you have a 50% less chance of having a cross fire:bump: and on the left side you have the red flag as a wind indicator....and I will get more gray hair, I won't have time to eat and I can loose more weight.
Second thought... I like it the way it is.
 
Another thing to think about......

Limiting the "Equipment Race" & "Gaming" by allowing only the following shooting aides to be used in the match....

-Rear sandbag rest
-Bipod
-Rucksack
-Dragbag
-Spotter
-Sling

No other shooting aides allowed..........this makes it a level playing field for all teams.....

I also like the idea of not having a disclosed course of fire, but if the people planning the course of fire are shooting the match, then they have an advantage over everyone else.........

Maybe write out all the matches we have shot in the past on slips of paper, put them in a hat and draw the matches after the sight in on Friday.........

Or publish the course of fire like we have been doing, but add a mystery match or two with only a round count.......
 
LOL... I think he means rotating with in the two man team not between teams. Some guys might be a bit unsure of doing the window or other partner supported shoots with Slavex and the rest of us ;)

All told, there was some outstanding marksmanship demonstrated on an interesting and challenging course of fire.

Speaking as someone who is familiar with the stats for this match, rotating relays is bad enough (and contributed to some scoring delay), rotating shooters within the relays would be a complete nightmare.

I too think that we should keep the recognition for the top individual shooters.

I travel a bunch to different matches, there is little chance that I would attend a match with an unknown course of fire. I would not chance spending hundreds of $$ and several days travel only to get to a match and find that the course of fire was completely unsuited to my equipment/abilities/style of shooting (for instance, it was full of running stages, etc. :D ).

This is a good point. We do not want to "scare" away shooters............especially ones who have a long way to travel..........

Maybe have one dedicated "Mystery Match" where you are given the round count only.........

Also, for the Cold Bore Shots, I think the 600m CBS should be worth more then the 100 CBS.......if the 100m CBS is 100pts, then the 600m CBS should be at least 150pts..........

I wholeheartedly agree here, the CBS is the heart of Tac shooting, the 600m coldbore should be worth at least what the 100m one was.
 
That was Definitely the best shoot of the year already and its only June!!! And better than last year For sure ( and not just because of my huge improvement in shooting!):D

Obviously I wasn't there this year, though I see my shooting partner was?? I personally don't think the biggest prizes should go to law enforcement. These guys are paid shooters and there are far less of them then civilians. We're trying to promote more of this shooting and competitions so in my opinion, there should be 2 prize tables. To a lot of the law enforcement guys, their firearm is just a tool in their tool box. To the civilian, their gun and the time they spend behind it, is something they enjoy doing as a hobby, not a job, and winning something like a PGW Timberwolfe would be an incredible achievement they would always cherish where as, and I'm not saying this to be rude to the law enforcement guys, but winning that gun, probably won't have the same meaning unless the guy is a gun lover like the rest of the civilian shooters are. If I got paid to spend time shooting because it was part of my profession, of course I'd come to competitions like this knowing that I"d logged thousands of rounds in conditions and angles and shooting positions that, through practice, I would have down pat, cold.

Now, there's absolutely nothing stopping the average joe civilian from doing this also but there's a pattern developing and it's going to end up curbing how many civilians come to compete against law enforcement guys when it comes down to time and money spent to make it out to events like this. As the prizes get bigger, due to the marketing of the event, the competition will get tougher and more serious because if theres something to be gained, the professional shooters will show up.

Take it for what it's worth. That's my 2 cents like everyone else.

Troy, you do make a good point.......It was discussed between several shooters this weekend.........Some thought the T-Wolf should have been a drawn prize, and others thought different different........Plus the donators of the Rifle had a specific request when the prize was donated...........this is something that will probably have to be addressed before next years match.......
