Museums in Winnipeg

Western Canada Aviation Museum if you are interested in aircraft and flight. If you can find the time to drive a little west, 2 hrs, there is the Military museum at Shilo (near Brandon). I've never been, as its only open weekdays, but its something I'd really like to see. There is the Museum of Man and Nature that is on Main Street, North of Portage Avenue. It covers Manitoba and Canadian history. I think there's a science museum at the Forks that might be good for kids.

Concur with the recommendations to visit the RWR museum. Fort Garry Horse museum at McGregor armouries is also worth a visit. You would have to check their website for their hours.
If you do have the chance to visit the Shilo museum, it is better to visit during the week as opposed to the weekend. While the main museum building is open weekends for the summer, if you wanted to see the bulk of the vehicle collection, you have to visit during the week. And if you do make it to the Shilo museum Koldt, give me a shout...I am right on the highway to Shilo. I may have the odd museum type items kicking around the house as well.

Yes!! If you go there on a slow day, one of the fellows will take you on a personal tour. Lots of great stories. Very worthwhile.
Oh, don't forget Lower Fort Garry.
If you ever get to Brandon, the armouries there has a small but extensive museum dedicated to the 26th Fd Regt RCA and XII Mantitoba Dragoons. Call ahead for hours and days of operation (the website was a little misleading). Having 2 uncles who served with 12D, one of which was KIA, I made it a priority to see it. Thanks to one of the museum officials, I had the good fortune of spending a couple of hours in there, all alone, looking at war diaries and artifacts.

Went, shot in the rain, and one of the guys I went with, (who owned the truck) wanted to power drive back. So didn't get an opportunity to check out any of the good spots. I will see all of the above spots though in due time.
