I am looking for an old straight tube scope to put on my neutered No.4 to make a poor mans sniper. I figured I would give Ebay a boo. I found what the seller says is a scope off a sniper rifle. Its a fixed 3x magnification, and has "US" stamped on the turret caps. It look pretty decent and is exactly what I am looking for to put on my No.4.

Here are some pics from the posting.

Is the seller selling a legit sniper model, or is he full of it? Also, is $150 overpriced for an old scope? And since rifle optic export is controlled by the US State department, would this count as a curio or relic?

And the reason I posted this on the Milsurp Forum and not the Optics forum is because if it is an old sniper scope, the people on the Milsurp forum would know.

I don't think it is a legit sniper scope. I'm not sure about the K3-C3 designation. The designation K3 is pretty current for a Weaver sporting scope, fixed 3x. I don't believe any Weaver is authentic equipment for a No.4T, but the older K2.5x, especially really old ones with a post and crosshair reticle, are a closer approxiamation of the authentic sniper scopes on No.4Ts, as that would be the correct magnification.

I have several K2.5x Weavers, including one which is post and crosshair. They are all in good serviceable condition and I didn't pay more than $60 for any of them, but it is a couple years since I bought the most recent one.

I don't think I'd choose a scope with US on it for a No 4 T. :)

I am curious about that K3. I also saw it on ebay and wondered about the US markings?

I have read somewhere that there were some Canadian No.4Ts fitted with Lyman Alaskan scopes.

I think it looked pretty good if you just want the look and a decent shooter. It has the right look for the T at least from 10 feet.

The only weaver I could find in US use is the Weaver T10 on the rather nice Marine Corp M40A1.

I believe that there were some M-1 rifles set up with Weaver K4 scopes.
The C3 is just a Weaver model variant number.
I suppose it is possible that the US purchased some other Weavers, heaven only knows. There are no doubt US authorities who would know for sure.
