Well after lots of research I desided to build another 9mm AR. Ever since I sold my colt 9mm I have missed it so much so I needed a replacement.
this build consists of:
-A.S.A. 10.5in 9mm upper with top loading magwell conversion, 9mm hammer and 9mm buffer
-Stag 223 lower
-magpul CTR stock
-magpul latter rails in OD green
-Samson star C free floating quad rail

the upper kit also came with one converted 5/20 round uzzi mag and one LAR 10round pistol mag. since then I have added 2 more LAR 10round pistol mags as well as a black plastic 5/20 round mag. (carbon 15 mag I think) So far all the mags work great accept the black plastic one which someone messed up the follower by over trimming it. Still looks good as a diplay mag though;).
I have had no feeding issues what so ever but non of the mags keep the bolt open on the last round.
I haven't messed with the sights to much yet but so far I can hit gongs out to 100m almost every shot and 200m 6 of 10 shots and 300m 3 of 10 shots.
It tens to group a little bigger than a soft ball at about 50m. (I assume that isn't to bad for a 10.5in barrel. I haven't even had a single hicup with it yet.(about 500 rounds so far)
All and all I am very happy with it and I plan on keeping this one alot longer, hopefully for ever.:D
anyways here are some pics. sorry for any spelling mistakes and grammer.
Also a big thanks goes out to Steve at Astor Arms for being so good to deal with for the upper.

Don't take this the wrong way, cause its not said to offend you, but those 9mm magazines hanging out of an AR platform are so fugly IMO, I don't think I could ever own an AR that wasn't chambered in a rifle caliber.

All your other guns look very nice :)

Its kinda like an ugly girl with a god personality. you see past the looks and learn to love her and all the sudden shes atractive.

heres a pic with a 10 rounder pistol mag. Does it look a little better?
If you are an EESA member or are ever in the Alymer area let me know and I'll take you out to shoot it. By the end you will probaly learn to love it and maybe get one of your own.;)

cheers,

Well, I do frequent EESA from time to time to help with the various events like the open house and mini-open house days. I was a member there last year but the commute got a little too long.

I can definitely see the advantages, like no recoil, uses dies that I already have, cheap/simplicity of reloading, etc, but when I finally work up to getting an AR, I may one day use it for service rifle as well, which probably lends itself to a rifle cartridge moreso than the 9mm

I asked this question on another post, I will put it out there again. What kind of groups at 100 yards are you getting on a 9mm AR? just wondering if it's worth a project. as 9mm ammo is cheaper these days.

I will hopefully get out again in the next couple of days and let you know.
It does seem to group a 30 shot group in the size of a soft ball though at 50 yards.

Nice looking 9mm AR....mags and all. I'm currently building mine, just waiting for a stripped lower. I don't have a 12.6 or 12.5 or 12 anything....so I can't get an uzi or hk or any other rifle that shoots 9mm. This will do just fine.:D

OK, that's pure ### to me, SMG looks and ammo that's dirt cheap (I reload) - since I have a lower with no upper, and already have an M4 clone, the question is, where do I get an upper like that, I've checked Questar and didn't see it, so ........where!!!!!!???????

I have a m4 clone, 11.5 AR, and i have built a 10.5 inch 9mm. By far the 9mm is my favorite right now. Fairly cheap to feed, and up to 50 yards i can group iit on a dime. Its almost boring its so accurate. I highly recommend them.

Of course the 18 mags i have for it also keeps it going all day with out having to reload mags :)

what are the specs on your 9mm AR

I recently switched from a 16" 9mm AR to a 7" AR pistol. I can add some candy to the discussion here. I'm still working on the build on mine. I've got a bunch of parts on the way now, but this is what it is currently:

The specs currently are:
RRA 7" inch barrel upper with aluminum free-float handguard and gas block
RRA "9mm NATO" and "Pistol Only" marked lower (not shown in these photos, too many parts right now)
RRA 6 position M4-style stock
Midwest Industries flip-up sights
EOTech 512
RRA 10 round pistol mags

The EOtech is mounted forward, partly for eye relief and partly because the brass deflector prevents the EOtech from sitting flat unless it is mounted forward of it. Could cut the brass deflector, but so far have not seen the need. The position of the EOtech seems really good for quick shooting. The Midwest sights perfectly co-witness with the EOtech (if your head is in the right place). Normally we shoot with the rear sight down though.

Some size comparison shots with a Swiss Arms 14.3" barrel carbine (the 9mm is a short gun):

My plans for the next stage of the build (parts are on the way) are:
Add the RRA pistol length aluminum quad-rail
Add vertical foregrip
Add Magpul CTR stock

I'll post pics when it is done. This gun is super fun to shoot by the way. If you are at PoCo on a Saturday afternoon and see me there, feel free to ask me to try it.

ghostie, i was wondering what you were getting. as i saw your 16inch upper for sale. congrats, that is one nice ar there. im very curious to see what the quad rail and a foregrip will look like. do you notice a significant difference in accuracy from the 16inch barrel to the 7inch?

Yah, I am also curious to see what the whole thing will look like put together. Initially when I was looking to buy a 9mm AR, I wanted the RRA 7 inch flat-top with the quad rail. I didn't have the money at the time so I didn't get anything. Then later, supply went down to nothing and the 16" was all you could get, so I bought one. Then this 7" came up on GunAuction this Spring, I just bid the minimum. I was surprised that no one else bid for it. I'm very glad I got it, as... where else are you going to get one of these now? Are they even coming into the country any more? I don't think so.

I believe that, unless you were in the States and were pre-ordering some kind of custom rifle from RRA, the quad rail is just an option you can buy afterward. Questar had two of the "pistol" length quad rails in stock, so I bought one. Should be pretty cool.

I was wondering about the accuracy issue as well. I can say quite confidently that there is no difference (that I can detect). It seems logical that you would get a bit more velocity out of the longer barrel, but at the distance we shoot these (out to 50m, mostly at 25m, once in a blue moon further than 50m) there is no difference. Both of the Rock River 9mm ARs that I have owned are deadly accurate. If you shoot at "pistol" distances (7 to 15m) you can quite easily hit your own bullet holes. At 25m you can cluster fist-sized groups shooting rapid fire. Shooting 9mm with a stocked firearm, especially a really nice one like this, gives you a whole new appreciation for the 9mm round. I've fallen into the whole "this brand/type of ammo is more accurate than another", but when you shoot with a stocked firearm, you realize that it has got to be at least 95% what you are doing with your hands, not the ammo.

I'll post more pics soon.

mpjustine,

I am running a 10.5inch heavy barrel on an A4 cerra forge upper with a low profile gas block and standard carbine hanguards. I have a Cheap red dot on it that i am thinking about just putting an Eotech on.

Lower is a RRA that I built, i have not gotten a trigger job,,, yet. I have a notched hammer (or unnotched, cant remember which) that allows for me to drop one of my 556 uppers on it if i need to with no parts change except the recoil spring.

I have an Hann precision mag block, that allows me to use the standard AR mag release, it is excellent and very well made, well worth the money.

For Mags,

4x 10rnd Questar Shorties
4x Pro Mag Plastic 5/32 (2 dont hold bolt open)
2x Pro Mag Steel 5/32
8x C-Products 5/32

No, none of my mags are for sale.

And as for the mag sticking out look, i love it, gives the classic sub machine gun look, think about the classics, thompson, schmisser, sten, even ppsh, all have stick mags,

hope that helps,
gavin

ghostie, great looking gun looks like a work of art. I have to ad this to my build list.

anyone know who is selling these 9mm barrels? I have a line on a stripped lower & upper receiver just need a short barrel like 10.5" or 11.5"
