Winchester forgot to put powder in one of my rounds.

The primer went off propelling the bullet about 1.5" down my barrel (Sig 220). I stopped, removed the mag, waited, ejected the spent casing and took the barrel out. Then removed the bullet from my barrel. I'm sure it would have blown up if I kept shooting. Pain in the ass and I'm not impressed.

The box it came out of has "31YD72" stamped on the inside flap. I'm guessing thats the lot number? It also has "070345-A 2" in ink. It's 45 auto 230gr FMJ Target in a white box.

I'm not sure how to notify winchester. No contact info on their website?


How often does this happen with factory ammo?
 
Usually factory ammo goes bang when asked to. But I guess any mechanized process can screw up. Maybe send them a note asking them to personally inspect every round. I'm sure they can do that and keep the price the same.;)
 
I had three sqiubs that ended with bullets jammed into the rifling just far enough back to prevent another round from chambering. ALL of these were out of two boxes of Winchester Silvertip 175 gr. 10mm. I have also had Win. 7mm-08 ammo take three or four strikes to fire, 6 rounds out of a box of 20 (this was a good way to make sure you're not flinching :) ). Needless to say I don't purchase much Winchester ammo these days.

Same.... I have given up on Winchester as well.

Serious quality control problem IMO. I would contact the Canadian Winchester rep. with the issue. Make sure you have the original carton with lot number. Any retailer that sells Winchester products should be able to put you in contact. I've done it in the past, although with Remington, and had great results.
 
for sure try to contact someone... might getsome free stuff and you might even save somebodys gun (or fingers)
 
Same thing happened to happydude at our range last year.... Took us awhile to get that bullet out! He has the lot number from that box and filed a complaint. Not sure if he got anything...
 
When I worked for CIL ammo divison, we test our ammo and that of the others from time to time. Remington was usually the best. That was just after we all converted from black powder.

There are differences from company to company and from lot to lot. If you happen to find something your gun likes, buy more of the same lot number.
 
i find that winchester has bad quaity control, on a chronograph with winchester super x 22lr i fired 50 rounds and had velocitys from 465 to 1580 fps is you ask me thats too much of a difference if it were abot 50 to 100 fps its alright but 1000 fps is a little too much, shortly after that i bought a box of 38 ammo and had 3 in a row with no powder (good thing, thay all got stuck in the barrel if the second or third had powder it would have been kaboom for me) so now let me ask a question do you think i buy winchester anymore?
 
I've been shooting some Winchester bulk .22 in my handguns lately. So far it has all come out the end of the barrel but you can hear and feel a real difference from shot to shot sometimes. I'm not at all surprised if there is the odd round thats 1000fps different from the average.

For plinking I could care less but in hunting ammo or stuff marked "Personal Protection" I would be taking it to the rep. or similar.
 
15 years ago I had a Winchester .280 Rem 140gr not make it to a 4 point mulie standing broadside 60 yards from me. When I got home from that trip I bought a RCBS press and tools and never looked back. Mur
 
There is a contact us link there on the site. I had to find it to contact them last week due to what I believe was a over charged trap load that bulged out the brass and almost separated from the plastic. The auto replies that have came back were from Winchester@Winchester.com
