Well as we all know Supercub is all about the bling and the tactical. He pretends it hurts him when he looks at tacticool stuff, but we all know the truth now. He asked me to help him with a little project, gone are the 7600s and instead SC is embracing the best gun Remington EVER made, a sweetazz 742 308 Carbine
Anyway, before I get around to torquing the barrel down, and finishing the gas system, I thought I would do a dry run. You can see Supercub is so hardcore that there is no plastic shield, (he tells me they are for sissies), and there are some minor mag modifications to ease takedown.
Anyway she is prepped for some hard running now, if only I could have convinced him to go synthetic for the stocks, but he said no, so we are left with the wood that I refinished for him... I think he will like it.

Hey Supercub :welcome:

I think that is the model of rifle my dad has. He won it in a sales competition, may moons ago, and as he was left handed, stuck with the semi instead of going back to bolt action rifles. Some day it will be mine, but I'm really in no hurry to take possession.

Y'know, that's not a bad little rig there, but it does need the 6 position adjustable AR type butt stock, to compensate for light or heavy clothing. I did that to my Griz 12ga and my 10-22, and damn is it ever handy in the field!

Handy, yes. My 870M4 wears a M4 stock an dwhile it is "handy" it's a real prick for recoil when you're only wearing a t-shirt!

For the record, I had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the building of that rifle! Dosing is trolling for unsuspecting mainlanders again.

That is actually a very good set up for hunting here in the Maritimes providing it can be proven reliable. I kinda like it. I use a 308 Carbine and occassionally mount a Williams WGRS on it. It`s one of the best handling rifles I`ve ever used.

Two things I have learn't from this forum is:

1. Supercub does not appreciate Remington Semis, not those ones anyways.

2. Gatehouse does not like 243s.

Then again I believe I saw Gatehouse recommending a CGNer to keep their 243, in a 2 out of 5 selection recently.

Just goes to show human beings have a right to change their minds.

Supercub, its a nice looking gun, I am sure you can get it working reliably. What is Mr Dosling doing with the gas system?

EDIT:Its subliminal but I think he is saying the 243 is a keeper.
243 and any of the others...7-08 to 300WSM isn't much different when hunting.

I'd personally keep the 300WSM, since I like it.

ROTFLMAO, whaada ya mean SC? I built it with you in mind, though they are right, needs more black to appeal to fellas like you I guess. Though the fact there is a compliment from SC on a 742, thats going to be a big entry in my diary tonight

This rifle should, should run like a top, the internals have been stripped, cleaned and smoothed up, and the gas system has had the same treatment. I did an assembly for the pic without the spring and spring tube in place, so once its all together its time for a trip to the range.

The ONLY reason I don't like Remington semis is the reliability factor, or lack thereof.

If they were as reliable and accurate as a 760/7600, I'd probably own one, but you can be dern sure there wouldn't be a camo flashlight hanging under the forestock. ;)

I'm not really sure what you're gonna use it for over there as there are no deer on PEI, but I can understand the thought behind the short bbl as it would fit nicely in the back of your Pinto.
