Winchester Survival Shotgun

It's tried and true - just Hack it through :D

Fine flat file & fine round file - to square off the muzzle and re crown the barrel.

Make sure you cut a little longer than 18" - you may have to take off a bit of length to square off the muzzle. It's not worth taking the risk of being to short!

What range were you hitting those clays at?

I shot the clays at 20 yards. I think max range would be about 25 yards for an ethical kill. With a choke tube installed the range could probably be lengthened, but this is a low buck project so cylinder bore will have to do!

I've had a few people pm me about doing a report on slugs. For me slugs and pistol grips don't mix and it is not a slug or bear/defense firearm....
but that being said if I can track down some inexpensive foster slugs I will see if I can try them out:)

Ya I looked closely at the tamer. It looks like a great pack gun, but I had the Winchester on hand so it didn't cost me anything but time :)

I would not have started this project without reading the regulations first.
Barrel is 18.5
OAL is 26.5

I gave myself half an inch on the side of caution to be safe.

Thanks for the heads up on my new prohibited weapon:rolleyes:
Read the regulations before you post - they are easy to find!

Hope to get out Sunday or Monday to give it a try. Slugs probably won't be on the agenda, but I will try some bird shot for sure!

And you don't need to notify CFC about these changes.

Here's an official list of what has to be reported to CFC:

- any modification to the firearm that affects its classification (non-restricted, restricted, prohibited);
- any modification that results in the firearm ceasing to be a firearm;
- any change to a frame or receiver that allows it to discharge ammunition;
- any modification in the type, action, calibre or gauge of the firearm; and
- any modifcation to an altered automatic firearm.

...Until you sell it. Ever bought a firearm that has been modified without telling the CFC? What a pain in the azz.

If you are registering you guns, you might as well call in the changes. Really why make things harder than they need to be for ourselves.

If they are not registered...than chop away.

Candy-ass!!! - I double-dog dare ya...

That's it I'm gonna bring the heat! ;)

I am calling the changes in. I want to do it by the book. (even if the book says I don't have to)

Nice job! Like the knife too, I have a little Grohmann skinner as well,

Great knife - and made in Canada! It was a tough choice between the mini skinner and the trout & bird, but I love the skinner.

I'll donate some 3" Remingtons in the interest of "ahem" science...:rockOn:

Why would you called in the changes, the barrel is over 18" and the OAL is over 26", it's still legal.

Did you reinstall the front bead?

Nice build, looks preaty cool. Could use a scabbard or a sling.

These changes are not required to be provided to CFC. The only problem is that the barrel length is no longer the original one and if it was registered as a 26" or whatever barrel, then the new version no longer meets the description of the FRT (Firearms Reference Table) for the original version.

I use to be a firearms verifier and each firearm has to have an FRT number in order to be registered. For example, a Rem 870 with a 26" barrel would have a different FRT number than one with a 24" barrel.

The registry is far from being perfect and complete so you will have firearms such as the T/C Encore with several different barrels and only one registration and one FRT number(usually the first combination used).

^I have already called the changes in. It is no big deal - And I want the paperwork to match the firearm.

I'll donate some 3" Remington's in the interest of "ahem" science...

Wholesale Sports just had the expensive sabot slugs - I will try a few more stores, if I can't find any I'll take you up on your generous offer! :)

Nice build, looks pretty cool. Could use a scabbard or a sling.

Here is what I use to lug around my lever action. It works pretty good on the Winchester too.
