Winchester Survival Shotgun

Very nice project, I have wanted to do the same for myself. My one issue is how to reinstall the bead. How did you or how are you going to do this? I had sorta thought about marking a line down the center from the original bead then but not sure if it would work right.

Anyhow, very cool gun!

I have a few ideas for new sights (I think iron sights would look major sweet :D )
To reinstall a bead just drill and tap a hole. You could mark it with a punch before you drill to make sure you are centered. After, you could use a file to make it flush with the inside of the barrel.

Is the re-crowning difficult?

Not bad at all. The barrel is really thick so I just rounded off the square edges. I used a flat file on the outside of the muzzle and a small round file for the inside. I just filed enough so the muzzle was smooth and slightly rounded.

I just purchased a Winchester 370, and I plan on doing the same thing to it as you have done to yours. (nice job might I add). How do you remove the stock from the action? and do you have any general tips before I get started?

Cheers, Cody

Hey Cody, the most challenging part is shaping the pistol grip and adding the shorter stock bolt. If you are "handy" it shouldn't be a problem :) To remove the stock just unscrew the butt plate and use a 7/16 (i think) socket with an extension. Then just pull it off. Have fun! Post some pics when you are done.

Your not kidding the shorter stock bolt is hard part. I don't have a drill press, so I'm just going at it with a dremal, slowly but surely. Will post some pics when I have a bit more done. Thanks for the inspiration :p

I got a chance to run a few slugs down the pipe this weekend! I was allot of fun. Watch the vid for the results...

Nice video Darrel!

With a bit of practice I think you'd do even better....and if the first shot doesn't kill that deer you can always finish him off with a tomahawk chop!

:D

^Thanks - Ya I think next time I'm out i will try shooting from a prone position with a small shooting bag. Hopefully I can get a better group than that!!!

Excellent update Darrell. I am going to attempt something similar with a 12g single very soon I hope. Something tells me that unlike you I will be complaining about recoil.

Great job on the winchester single..Looks realllly good. But in my opinion....I could cry...I love the winchester 37A singles and the 370, 840, cooey 84..I think they are the best single shotgun to ever be made..I also collect them...And It broke my heart seeing the pics of you chopping er up.. Mainly because it looked to be in great shape original..

But other than that...it does look good..and you did that single justice...:D

^ ya I have soft spot for single shots too. This was my first shotgun - I bagged my first ruffed grouse with this little 20. Luckily it will get much more use now! - a firearm that gets used is a happy firearm :)

It had to lose a few pounds to follow me around!

Very nice. Good work.

I agree with reporting the changes, it might help if you ever got stopped. Just pull out the paper work. I know some guys were having problems with their Outlaws but the paper work should solve that.

Again, good work.
