Winchester Survival Shotgun

I could not get any audio on your video, what range were the slugs fired at? were they full power 20 ga.? the last slug seemed to have more recoi? I am not sure why anyone thought the slugs would have more recoil than the same weight in shot loads?

 Is this one of these "if a tree falls in the forest, but no one is around" questions?

Slugs kick more than bird shot and buck shot in my world...

Thanks for sharing your project Darrel, it's something that I may want to do in the future. :)

Are you being serious?

What world is that? 1 oz of lead recoils exactly the same whether it's slugs or shot if they're fired at the same velocity.

Heck maybe your right, but no specific mentions of lead weight and velocity were made in these tests, so how can 9.3X62 say:" I am not sure why anyone thought the slugs would have more recoil than the same weight in shot loads?" These comments are not relevant to the discussion.

In my "world" this is what I use for my 20ga.

-Remington shurshot heavy dove
2"3/4 1165fps 1oz no.6

-Remington Buckshot 2"3/4 3bk (20 pellets) 1.060z ?fps

-Federal Power-shok
2"3/4 3/4oz 1600fps rifled slug hp

So, yeah you guys are probably right if you compare oranges to oranges. But anyone who has fired any kind of a pistol grip shotgun knows the difference in recoil for the average, off the local store shelf, birdshot vs slug. So why break our nutz with the "ton of feathers vs ton of brick" comments?

Hmmmmm. Are you saying this from a strictly opinionated standpoint? Or are there true physics behind it?

In my opinion the slug will kick more. There are more things to consider than just the 1 oz. The shot is broken up, there are differing wads, and there are different powders being used.

And what roadwarrior said /\.

The bird shot was 7/8 oz - the slugs were 3/4 oz. In this case the difference in the recoil is velocity. The slugs were 1600 fps. - about 500 fps faster than the shot. You can tell the difference in recoil from the videos. The bird shot recoil was a slow "push" and the slugs were a fast "snap".

I love how the cops and the wardens can't understand the regs on this. Still think Canadian recruits went through the same restrictions as the Brit's and anyone with an IQ above 100 was removed as a candidate.

What did you use for a front sight???

I added a fiber optic sight on the front. I actually tacked it on with my little 110. :D I ground the weld into a ramp and blued it with my touch up pen. I think drilling and tapping would be less time consuming and look cleaner - but I wanted to try out a bigger sight. It certainly will stay on!

Cool - thanks...

Hey Darrel and cchaban:

Nice work both of you. Great pics cchaban (cool outdoor shot).

Now damn you both. Now I have to go find a 20 gauge to cut down.
:);)

Nice work! That turned out great!!! I like the darker stain. Have you tried it out yet?

Yeah, she shoots alright. 16g, so the slugs have a "bit" of kick, but its not to bad with shot. I am having some troubles with the varnish though, not as tough as I would have wanted. What did you use on yours?
