I like mine.
Wolverine's current list price is $2440 so if you can get it for under 2G I think you'd be doing pretty good. Mind you if you are getting any extras (rails, bi-pod, mags, case etc.) you'd have to factor that in.

It seems like a decent target/varmint rifle.
You can put a HUGE amount of money into one, and come out with a very decent G36/SL8 Carbine, especially if you can get your hands on a G36e barrel, or profile the heavy barrel (you will lose accuracy if you lighten the barrel however)
SL8 accessories & parts are far more common and available than USC45 parts.

the hammer forged barrels last a REALLY long time.
the HK416 Mil. Spec. barrel lasts 15-20,000 rounds (minimum service life) compared to an Ar15 with a barrel life of closer to 5-6000 rounds (this is US Mil Spec stuff, many barrels will last a lot longer)
There are G36's with over 25,000 rounds through them, so im sure the SL8 will last just as long

im pretty sure that its the trigger group that cracked, just in front of where the hammer drops. i have heard HK state that its only aesthetic, but they will warranty it. YMMV.
I have not heard of the actual upper receiver cracking at all, and since the SL84/5 have the non indented mag well, there aren't any pressure points like the USA made SL81/6.

I have the SL8 and love it. I stopped counting rounds through it at 1700 + and it still looks brand new and shoots the same way. I feed it my own home brewed ammunition exclusively and have absolutely no gripes or complaints. Nor do I expect any, given the amount of money I paid for it. Mine has the chromed bore and it cleans up like a dream. You will probably die before that rifle does.
I think it is over-priced - but that would go for all the black and green rifles. Having said that though - I would not sell mine.

Personally I found that mine was somewehat overkill on a 223 rifle and I went back to the AR15 series (also due to availability of mags - HK G36 mags are $$$$) Thats a CF Thermold mag in an modified TN AR15 mag adapter. Overall the project was very expensive, but was a nice NON RESTRICTED firearm. Now i would just run the gun with PMAGS ...

im not 100% sure about that, but what I remember reading is that the US Military "service life" of M4 carbines was somewhere around 5500-6000 rounds, and after that point they started to see accuracy degradation.
That was "supposed" to be one of the major selling points of the 416, that the barrel lasted somewhere around 3 times as long before it started to lose accuracy (noticeably), and that was the cost justification of the 416 (in HK's eyes)
Im sure you could put a bunch more rounds downrange before it was really toast, considering that it IS a carbine, and not a precision rifle.

How much did this project run for?
It wasnt as much as the cost of the parts, but more the availability on the TN (Top Notch G-36 adapters and HK G36K stocks, hensoldt optics etc) all said and done it probably exceeded the cost of a new Swiss Arms rifle... If you are an HK nut than its the closest thing you will get to a full size G36 (aside for the real HK G36 variants available for $10,000 CAD).
A very nice shooter overall but YMMV

No gunsmith would want to reduce the bbl due to rifling...
Its a BIG gun for a small round.

I love mine. A while backe there were some in the EE for about $1800 for a basic one. The price the fully accessorized ones varied, but I dont think they sold for less than $2800 and up. Mine would never sell as a whole unit. It would be too expensive for a general sale and would probably get more if parted out. (no Im not selling mine )
There are a few range report on this site and on HK Pro. you will have to do a search for them. I will eventually put a link to them and post my own in the SL8 FAQ thread. (ok, I have posted some range reports now)
I have not heard of any recent lowers (trigger housing) cracking. I have haerd it was fixed, but I have no confirmation about this. If there is a problem, HK has a liftime warranty and it is covered. I have also heard that the crack was caused by people removing the lower from the upper and then pulling the trigger and letting the hammer hit the front of the lower. Its really not a good idea to to anyway!
